Does your LO drink from a cup?

At what age do kids start to move from a sippy to a cup?  I've tried introducing it a couple of times and it's a complete waterfall/mess.

  • I have tried a couple of times. DS is obsessed with drinking out of our drinks. I got him training cups at Target and they work a little bit. But I am comfortable with the sippys and dont see myself changing DS over to cups for a while

  • DD drank from a real cup before she drank from a sippy.  She was OBSESSED with watching us drink water from glasses.  So we started around 7 months to give her little sips to keep her amused at restaurants.  At first she'd keep trying to use her bottom lip like it was a bottle, but she caught on quickly.  We didn't do anything more than offer.  And maybe not tilt it so much so that she had to use her top lip to suck the water in.
  • DS is a huge copy cat and abandoned the sippy as soon as he was physical able to drop it.  He drinks out of regular plastic cups now without much of a mess. The only time we use a straw sippy now is with travel.

  • Will went through a stage ages ago when he kept wanting to drink out of an open cup. But with two of them, I really don't have time for the hovering that would be required to keep that from turning disastrous at that age, so I'm in no rush. They've been drinking from straw sippies since 12.5m and that works great for us right now!

  • He can drink from a cup, but he doesn't know to sit the cup down.  He throws it.  So sippy it is.
  • She can drink from a regular cup fine as long as it isn't too full.  She also has issues with throwing it sometimes when she is done so we stick with her sippy for now and just give her a regular cup with a tiny bit of water occasionally.
  • No. He spills DS's (4 yo) cups of water whenever she leaves them around. He tries, but ends up dumping them on his shirt/the floor, etc. He even spills sippy cups.
