Parenting after a Loss

emotions

I'm feeling really emotional today.  I think it is a combination finally being complete with the weaning process and also suddenly realizing that DD is growing up so fast.  My SIL's best friend told me she was an emotional wreck with hormones when she weaned.  She thought it was worse than the regular PP hormone shifts she felt.  Anyone else recall feeling that way?  If so, how long did it last?  Every time I think about never nursing DD again I get this pit in my stomach.  It's definitely all about me though.  She is doing absolutely fine without the boob.  She was ready... I just wonder if I was :(

Re: emotions

  • I was definitely sad when I weaned.  It was much earlier than I had planned (7 months instead of 12+ months), and I felt very guilty about it.  I was also pregnant at the time, so I don't know whether the hormonal swings were due to weaning or pregnancy (probably both).

You have done such a great job, though - you nursed for a long period of time, and we all know that's not easy.  Try to give yourself a break.
