what bottles did you use? I BFed with Cora until 3 months and then we used Playtex Drop Ins. I know some bottles are better than others for newborns with gas and spit up. We tried Avent too but they leaked everywhere.
We use the playtex ventaire advanced with the wide nipples that are supposed to feel like the breast.

We use Dr. Browns. I've heard some women say they are a little leaky, but if you're careful when you're assembling them, I found that we rarely (if ever) have leaks).
And FWIW, I EPed with DS and we started with the Medela bottles that came with my pump, and when DS started drinking more than they could hold, we switched to Dr. Browns. I noticed a huge positive difference in DS' gas/spit up levels.
I also EPed and started with the Medela bottles, then went to Dr. Brown's. Alex was never much of a puker, but I love the Dr. Brown's bottles. I've tried to switch a couple of times just because other bottles are easier to wash, but I always go back to the Dr. Brown's because they're just so much better. I have had some leak issues with them, but I still prefer them to any other kind.
I EPed with Wesley. We started with the pump bottles and Pur nipples (super slow to try and keep from nipple confusion) so I could eventually BF. We then switched to drop-ins with the 4 oz. bottles once he started needing more oz. Then up to the 8 oz. drop-ins.

We used Dr. Brown wideneck bottles (and then later the skinny Dr Brown's) along with Playtex Ventaire. I felt like both of those worked equally good. We had some other Nuby ones but those made her much more gassy and we only used those when she got older and could burp herself.

Re: If you FF from birth or early on
We use the Dr. Brown wide neck bottles. That with Enfamil Gentlease formula makes very little spit up.
