  • When I prepped mine I used a little bit of detergent. So I washed then dried 6 times and used a little bit each time. They come out nice and quilty and soft.

  • How many prefolds do you have? If its not a ton, its a lot easier to boil to prep than it is to wash and dry several times. Google instructions on that. I do that whenever I get new hemp inserts. It requires a lot less time and a lot less water. After boiling, you just need to wash and dry once and you're good to go.

And you need to use detergent because the point of prepping is to remove the natural oils that can cause repelling, and to fluff up the prefolds. :)

  • I did six washes total with a dry after every two washes.  I did the first four washes with a small amount of detergent, and the other two without.  I wasn't using any diapers at that point, though, otherwise I probably just would have thrown them in with my dirty CDs and washed with detergent each time.

  • I boiled mine using a big pot for about 20 minutes and then washed with my dirty diapers.  Or, you can boil and wash once with CD approved detergent.  I had 2 dozen, and it took me a couple of hours.  Just make sure when you boil that you don't overcrowd the pot -- the PFs should be able to move around.
