lol.. yeah, we'll see how long my homemade smoothie kick lasts.. McDonalds smoothies are pretty good, and they don't require any cleaning. I'm not sure how nutritious they are though.

Get frozen fruit to use. That way you won't have to use ice...it tends to water the smoothie down. Plus "they" say frozen fruit locks in the nutrients sometimes better than the fresh stuff. I like to put either frozen strawberries or the mixed berries, a banana, orange juice and yogurt with honey in it. It's good for breakfast or even dessert!
I heard to clean a blender, you put soap and water in it and turn it on...tah dah!
Today I just bought those new Yoplait smoothies in a bag. I made it for a snack this afternoon, it was very yummy. Each smoothie is 1 serving of fruit, plus you are using 1 C of milk which is good for calcium.
I have a small electric smoothie blender that I got at gnc.. it works awesome and just like happybride said put water, soap in and turn it on it will clean it in a jiffy...
frozen fruit does work best. I put all sorts of fruits in. depends on what I am desiring. yogurt in it too makes it creamy...
My breakfast lately: half a frozen banana, a big handful of spinach, a tablespoon of peanut butter, some ground flax, and about 3/4 cup milk. So good.
RE: cleaning the blender: Just rinse, fill with hot water and a bit of dish soap, blend, dump, rinse. 30 seconds and it's ready to go for tomorrow. I only take it apart once a week or so.
So I decided to read this post and the responses and guess what I did as soon as I finished reading? I got up and made a smoothie for myself and my DH!!!
I used 2 bananas, peanut butter, some chocolate, ice and a little bit of milk. I have no idea how much fat is it in from the peanut butter, but like many others on here, I'm not eating as much meat as normal, so I'll claim that I need the pb for protein I have not been able to eat a banana since my BFP, so I'm thinking this may be a way to get them back into my diet!
All you smoothie drinking mamas should try "HempShake" it's a hemp protein... it's organic, no gmos, SUPER good for you, and you can get it pretty affordably on amazon.com. Protein powder tends to have whey protein which is another form of msg and also soy contains a lot of estrogen which is bad for babies/women. Anyway, this hemp stuff is good! I put greek yogurt/fruit/honey/4 tbs hemp protein/coconut oil/hemp milk (or almond/regular) and it's really filling! And sometimes I throw in kale or spinach
Every morning I make a carnation good start chocolate packet with a cup of milk and a frozen banana. The frozen banana turns it into a milkshake texture and it is amazing!!!! A much healthier version of a milkshake! well not exactly a smoothie but definitely helps with my calcium intake since I hate milk

This post has made me VERY excited about smoothies. Think I'll need to pick up some things to make them. I always use frozen berries and nonfat plain yogurt with whatever additives I feel like. This may help me in the morning since it's taking me 25 minutes to choke down cereal or an english muffin.
*Love the cleaning techniques many of you shared. Never thought of turning on the blender w/ the soap and water in it. So obvious yet genius!
Re: What's in your smoothies?
I love smoothies, I hate cleaning the blender.
I don't make many smoothies.

I like strawberry, banana and yogurt smoothie (sometimes I throw in some avocado or spinach)
Also banana, almond butter (or peanut butter if you or your DH are not allergic), cinnamon and yogurt is also good.

Soy milk, ice, a tiny bit of chocolate syrup and strawberries.
Or.. soy milk, ice, pb (I don't really eat meat so I need protein), and a whole banana.
Mom to Benjamin 6/2011 and Lena 5/2013; baby 3 on the way
1/2 frozen banana
.5 - 1c frozen berries (raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and blackberry mix)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
5-6 ice cubes
LOVE it! I have one for breakfast every morning!

My dinner smoothie tonight:
Apple, banana, milk, tofu, wheat germ, a handful of strawberries, and 1-1/2 c spinach.
I was so not hungry at all, but I figured I should "eat" something.
Mmmm...cake!
This!
Morning smoothies seem to be getting me through the nausea. I use: 1 banana, about 1/2/ cup of frozen strawberries, milk and plain yogurt.
Enjoy!
Definitely throw in some spinach or kale for extra greens- it?s like they?re ?free? because you really can?t taste them!
Also, ditto PP- I definitely don?t take my blender apart after each use. A good rinse does just fine!
