WWYD?- Telling Boss

My first u/s is this week in the middle of the work day. This is the only appointment they have open.  I want DH to come with me, but he said the only way he'd be able to take off of work is if he tells his boss why.  I want him to just make up an excuse, but he said he can't.  He works like an hour from home, so it wouldn't be easy, to just leave in the middle of the day and go back and forth.

Should I let him tell his boss? There is a part of me that is reluctant to have his boss know before my parents, his parents, friends, family, etc. even know.

Re: WWYD?- Telling Boss

  • I'm going to have to tell my boss before my parents - in my contract I have to notify before the end of the 3rd month, so I'll have to tell them a week before I can tell anyone else (because I'm waiting to tell my parents in person, and I won't see them until week 13, when I have a full week off of work).

If it's important for your husband to be at the ultrasound (I know it was important to me), I'd let him tell his boss.  It's not like real telling...

  • Let him tell!! You def. want him there and he won't want to miss it!!
  • why can't he say he has a medical appointment?  i agree with you that it seems weird that he would have to tell his boss.  i mean, i told my boss right away only b/c i had terrible m/s - but not everyone will be comfortable with that.

idk.  i think your H might be being a little silly.  and it sounds like he takes his job seriously and probably doesn't miss work very much - what's wrong with being vague?  lol

  • Dh and I both told our partners about our pg prior to telling anyone else mainly because they had to cover for us since we had several dr appts to go to.  I was fine with it.

  • With #2, DH told our lawyer before our parents b/c it just happened to come out. Unless you tell your parents that you told someone else first, I can't imagine anyone's feelings being hurt. I agree, however, that telling the boss he has a medical appt. should be all that's necessary. I don't think you have to disclose the purpose of your appt. to an employer.

  • I think your DH should be able to tell his boss he has to leave for a doctor's appointment and that should be that. I can't imagine his boss drilling him as to what kind... I mean, that seems weird?

Be that as it may, if DH HAS to tell his boss the EXACT reason why, I say go for it. It probably won't be long before you announce it to everyone so you should just pick your battles. IMO, obv.

  • I've had to make up excuses for two Doc visits so far.  First time I said I had a dentist appt and second time I said I had a Doc appt but didn't get specific.  No one at work gave me a hard time when I said Doc appt bc I think most people realize Docs are not open on weekends.  If your DH's boss is nosey you could just ask DH to tell a white lie that appt. is for him for now and then explain later that it was for your pregnancy and that you didn't want to say reason earlier due to privacy and wanting to tell family first.  I think anyone would be ok with that.

  • If I was him I would just say that he has a dr's appointment. Honestly he does so he is not lying.
