Last cycle I was in the ER for a painful ovarian cyst on my right ovary. I waited two weeks, and then went for a transvaginal ultrasound at my ob/gyn office. They concluded that I had two cysts on my left ovary and one on my right (still).
My DH brought home a digital HPT because he is still in disbelief. When reading the instructions, I noticed that it said that ovarian cysts can cause false positives.
Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced this? How likely is it? Now I am stressing that my worse fears are coming true.
TIA
Re: Ovarian Cysts = False Positives
I had several cytsts due to the Gonal-F. It wasn't false for me...I haven't personally heard that, but I guess it is possible.
Are you going in for betas?
I have read that (and something about menopausal women having HCG in their urine) in the HPT packets before but I can't imagine it is all that common.
Good luck!
The office isn't open until Monday so I need to wait to make an appt till then.
Ugh, the wait sucks. Well, good luck. And FWIW, and based on nothing but my own guess, I wouldn't think these cysts are large enough to cause a BFP. I'm gonna bet it's the real thing.
I hope it is the real thing. When I researched this a lot of things said Corpus Luteum cysts are the ones that can cause falso positives and I believe that is the one that I had (have) on my right ovary.
I guess only time shall tell us.
Thanks
