Introduction to a worry wart and a questions

Hi Ladies!!

I just wanted to introduce myself.  Yesterday I finally admitted that the faint lines that I was seeing for the past 3 days on 5 different tests were BFPs.  My DH and I were trying for a while and we are thrilled but still so nervous.

I cannot wait to spend my time on this journey...

I actually have a questions too.  Since researching online, I saw that your levels should be doubling every day or every other day.  What I am wondering is why my lines don't seem to be getting darker?  Don't get me wrong they are definitely darker than 11DPO, but I still yet to have a blazing dark line.  I always use FMU too.  I am 14DPO now, is this fairly common?  The lines of my ICs were even darker than the FRER.  Of course with researching comes all the negatives I see...chemical pregnancies, etc.

WHERE THE HELL ARE MY DARK LINES? Angry

Thanks so much!

  • when are you taking your tests?

Also, if you are really worried call your OB and get your HCG levels checked. Thats the only way you can verify that they are indeed doubling like they are suppose to. Hope this helps !

  • I really think that test like that might not pick up all the hcg in your system. I would see if you can get bloodwork done to check your betas and progesterone, they will test you two days apart then ten days later to see if they are rising properly. that is a more accurate way. try not to stress your self out you are pregnant and I would stop poas and set up a dr's appointment. good luck and h & h 9 months to you.

  • Thanks.

I am PIAC first thing when I wake up.

As for my doctor's office, the phone lines are not open again till Monday... Unless it is an emergency, I can't get through to anyone and even then, it is just a woman for the answering service so she doesn't make appts.

I hated peeing on things when I was getting negatives, but now it has become sorta addictive.

If they don't want to schedule me till 8/10 weeks, would you suggest I tell them I am concerned because my lines are not getting darker and wanted my betas and HCG levels tested?

  • I took three tests and my lines never got darker. I am definitely 12 weeks pregnant.

  • I agree with PP. I started testing at 10 DPO and my lines never got darker. I finally tested with a digital to make sure. As long as your betas double every 48-72 hours, you're fine. The number doesn't matter so much, just as long as they double. GL!

  • From my understand the darkness of the line has nothing to do with how pregnant you are and everything to do with the amount of dye in the test.  If you are that worried get a digital.

No, don't waste your doctor's time.  Think of it this way.  If you start out with an hCG level of 5 (which is generally considered pregnant by most docs) and it's supposed to double every 48-72 hours, it would only be 10 2-3 days later.  Still pretty low but rising appropriately.  And only 20 2-3 more days later.  Still not high but again rising appropriately.  While HPTs are sensitive enough to pick up low levels of hCG, they are not going to be blazing dark until your levels are pretty high and it takes some time to get there.

  • As hard as it is to resist, HPT's are qualitative, not quantitative. Even two tests in the same box can have different levels of dye in them, therefore giving you a different darkness from the same urine.
  • Thanks ladies--- you put some of my nervousness at ease!

  • yes. Tell them that you want to come in and have your hcg levels drew. its not like you have to see a OB for that, they should have no problem scheduling in for that. Call first thing Monday morning and they might could squeeze you in then.
