Any good shampoo suggestions?

I have really thick hair that is a little past my shoulders. Usually I can wash my hair every other day and it will not be greasy or too gross. I do that because it takes so long to blow dry and straighten. I do not have time to do that every day between working and having a 2yr old.

Now my hair is getting greasy way too fast and feels gross hours after I wash it, and I feel like it needs to be washed every day. I think its partly due to the pregnancy and partly because I tried John Frieda root awkening shampoo.  anyone have any suggestions on a good shampoo and conditioner for thick greasy hair? My DH thinks nothing has changed and I look beautiful, which is nice to hear but I think it really has changed!

  • I had the same problem when I was KU (I'm just bored and lurking).  My stylist recommended Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Condition and they really helped.

  • I use the Daily Cleanse shampoo from Origins.  My hair is super thick and never had an oily problem until now.  Now and then, I skip the conditioner and rub oil at the last 2 inches of my hair only where it's old and dry.  Some days I use dry shampoo if I'm in a rush and can't wash my hair that day.

Also, there a great shampoo called Pure Abundance from Aveda geared towards volumizing one's hair.  It's supposed to be for fine hair to give volume, but it has clay in it to suck up all the oils.  Only thing is you have to use it together with the conditioner & is a bit pricey- but it works wonders.

If anything, look for a a shampoo that's geared towards oily hair.  See how it works.  If it doesn't, return it and venture off to another brand until you find something that works.  Everybody's hair and scalp is different.  Wish there was one brand to conquer it all. =)

  • how bout trying a dry shampoo. you would wash your hair as normal and on the off days that you do not wash you just spray or powder on dry shampoo only on your roots and brush it out. your hair would still be straight (maybe with more body) and it would absorb the oil and freshen up your hair. just a thought. treseme makes one that sprays in and it smells really nice.

    hope that helps...

  • I rotate these 3.  Biolage super moisture, Joico super moisture, Phyto Organics.

I have very thick, wavy hair.

  • I am using the Body SHop's new Rainforest Radiance line.. the purple one for colour treated hair. (I think they had one for oily hair specifically).  But my hair is oily, and I find this helps my hair to last two days without a wash.

  • I have overly oily hair and I noticed switching to lush products helped.  I have used big and most of the shampoo bars.  Its a bit expensive but lasts a long time so I think it's worth it!
