Pain in the lower right side

I'm about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant.  I have not been to the Dr. yet I have an appoitment on Thursday but I'm having these pains that I had before in my life when I was younger. It's mostly on my right side in the front and left side in the back.  I want to say it's like having period cramps but it's a little different.  I'm scared that it could be an ectopic pregnancy.  Any advice?

Thanks

Re: Pain in the lower right side

  • Definitely tell your doctor about it, but it might just be "round ligament pain." I have had this pain throughout my pregnancy (I am 12 weeks now) especially when I move quickly or sneeze. It more commonly occurs on the right side too.

    Hope this helps.

  • From what I hear, an ectopic pregnancy is excrutiatingly painful so I don't that's what's happening with you, but I am no medical expert.

The cramping you're describing sound normal to me.  It's normal to have some cramping as your uterus grows to make room for baby.  That being said, you should always call your doctor if anything worries you.

  • I would tell your doctor just to be on the safe side. I had an ectopic and did not have really bad pain until 7 weeks when it went through my tube. I am not saying this is what you have and most likely what you are feeling is probably normal but anytime you have concerns like this you should bring it to your doctor's attention.

There is no way to know for sure what it is - but I had/have this (on my right side) worked myself into a frenzy over ectopic. The only thing that kept me sane was that ectopic is supposed to unbearable in terms of pain and this was more of a twinge - not horrific pain. I really thought they'd tell me at my ultrasound on Thursday that it was ectopic. Low and behold, everything was fine, baby right in the middle of the uterus and no issues on the tubes or ovaries. The tech said the corpus leutum (sp?) cyst that helps with hormones is on the left and some women feel it, and some actually feel the twinges on the right instead of the left. Try not to worry until you get checked out.

  • I have these pain too on my right side and have seen my doctor for my ob appt. I have actually made them both ultrasounds look at my right side tube and ovary just to verify that everything is okay. Everything is completely fine. I still have the pains and I was told it was ligament pain from my growing uterus. I have pretty much had this pain the entire time, but it does not really hurt me. defintly discuss this with your OB though because every person is different.

  • I am 7 weeks pregnant. I had a sharp pain in my lower right side last week. I have had ovarian cysts sense I was a teenager, and it felt like that. They are painful but not painful enough to make me go to the hospital. But it is a sharp pain.  Being the worrier that I am I called the on call line just to make sure it was ok. The doctor said that it was most likely my cyst leaking a little and was not concerned unless it got worse.  But seriously call the on call doctor if you are worried! Even though my issue was not really an "emergency" she was very understanding.
