experience with Mavala?

My daughter is 4.5 and we need her to stop sucking her fingers.  The dentist today finally said it is time for intervention and we are going to start using Mavala.  Anyone have experiences with this stuff that you are willing to share?

Re: experience with Mavala?

  • We're using it now (DD is 2.5).  It says not to use it on children less than 3 b/c they can't taste it, but she can.  Our dentist said we needed to do something, too.  I guess she sucks on her thumb pretty hard while she sleeps and it's creating a 'vaulted roof' in her mouth and her teeth (which are already big) don't have enough room in there to grow.  I can already tell.

Anyway...she hates the stuff and if you accidentally taste it, you'll hate it too and know why it works so well.  So far, so good, though.  I tried other stuff on DD...a band-aid (she took it off), socks on her hands...it didn't work. I try to remember to check her thumb when I get her from bed to see if it's wet/pruney and usually it isn't.
