I like it overall, but get caught saying 'ew' when I pronounce it. You can't go wrong with the popularity (doesn't even chart on the SSA Names list) or the association.
I think your child will have a lot of issues with pronunciation. I even know who the actor Ewan McGregor is, but for some reason when it is not in the context of his name, I have trouble figuring out how to pronounce it, I really had to think about it.
I think it's fine, but might cause pronunciation issues like the other posters mention. Another suggestion is Evan, which I think is the Welsh version of John.

I want to like Ewan, but I just keep saying "ew" instead of "yoo." I like it in theory. I like it on paper. And I like Ewan McGregor. But for an American child...eh, I'm just not sold. I think pronunciation issues would become his lot in life.
I love the name but, I learned my lesson with DD. Her name is Isla and it is pronounced Eye-la. The s is silent like island. The s really messes people up. I have a friend at work and even though I am allways talking about DD my friend always calls her Ice-la.
Im a big fan of scotish names to begin, and would totally love Ewan if I was having a boy. You would forever be corrrecting the person who called your DS E-wan.

how disappointing! I love the name Isla! Ewan is a nice name too, but I agree- it will get butchered. What about Owen?
Isn't it tough trying to consider how the rest of the world will say the name? Like it's not hard enough just agreeing on one that you and DH like!! ugh

Not a fan personally.
At first blush it looks like a typo of Evan to me.

Where you or your parents born in Scotland?
If not, then do not choose the name that no one will be able to pronounce for no reason.
