1st U/S @ 6 weeks - similar situation anyone?

Hi - a little worried/uncertain after my first u/s today and thought it would make me feel better to see if anyone on her has experienced anything similar and what the outcome was...so here goes -

Had my first u/s today.  According to my last period I'm 6W3D but at the u/s they measured me at 5W and also couldn't see the heartbeat (too early for 5W anyway but thought maybe at over 6W there was a possability).  They said everything looked great though.  I also did blookwork so should hear back tomorrow on results.  But in the meantime I'm working myself up questioning the pregnancy symptons I've been feeling over the last 3 weeks.

Anyone else had a similar experience early on and what was the outcome?  I'm going in next week for another u/s and expect to get the blood results tomorrow but in the meantime I'm driving myself crazy with the what if's....

Were you charting? If not, it's impossible to tell when you ovulated, so it may have been later than you thought.

Did you chart? I only ask because you could have ovulated later and that's why.  In my case that's what happened.  I O'd on cd28 and according to my LMP I would be almost 10 weeks but if I use the O date then I am only 8 weeks.

I was using OPK's and got the positive (happy face!) on CD15

going by your LMP assumes you have a perfect 28 day cycle with O on CD14.

If I were to go by LMP, I would be 18w pregnant today.    However, I O'd on CD24 - not CD14.

Okay, I basically just had the EXACT same situation. But I had IVF and my doc that I dealt with for that that said I was 6wks when I got my positive test. But when I went for my first ultrasound yesterday (different doctor, and this one will be my regular OBGYN) she gave me the ultrasound, said it was too early for heartbeat but that everything looked great, and said I was 5w2d. Also did bloodwork that day and they said would call for results. I have also been feeling strong symptoms for about 3weeks. I am also waiting so I am not much help.. but maybe at least since its the same for both of us that can relieve some stress??!

I could be wrong but I thought a positive OPK means you could ovulate within the next day or so. Sperm can live 3-5 days inside of you. Did you continue to use OPKs after you got your first positive? I'm thinking maybe you actually O'd a day or two after your first positive. Pair that with the life span of sperm and you should be okay.

I'm assuming your doctor is having you come in next week to check again. Good luck to you!

Last week at 5w5d I had an ultrasound that measured 4w5d, no heartbeat

On Monday, I had another at 6w2d and I was measuring exactly on time with a heartbeat of 124.

It may just be too early. It really is day by day right now!

last pg I was 7 days behind my lmp.  not hb at 5w4d (or lmp of 6w4d) but there was one at 6w2d (lmp of 7w2d).  This time around I am measuring 6 days behind LMP - so it could be really early.

whenever I go for an ultrasound they give me measurments and say (+) or (-) 5 days b/c they are never 100% accurate.

For example w/ ds#2 I went in and had a u/s done and the tech estimated baby was about 6 lbs. I went in again the next day b/c of some complications and that tech (different one) estimated 4 lbs. So the measurements could be a bit off. BTW he was 6lbs 8oz. when he was bron 12 hours later.

Thanks for the well wishes and yes, it does help to hear that this has happened/is happening to others out there!  It's so easy to feel like "it's only me!"  I'm going in next week for another u/s so maybe will have more certainty then.

At my first ultrasound, the tech said that the gestational sac was too small for the program to measure/give a date.  The next week, my doc said the radiologist estimated the sac to be 5 1/2 weeks.  My bloodwork kept coming back good.  

Two weeks and one day later I had another ultrasound and things looked great, heartbeat of 186, and was measuring 7w4d.  I hope your next ultrasound goes well!

same thing happened to me on Monday.. I was so dissappointed but the doctor assured me I was just earlier than I thought and we rescheduled another u/s for two weeks later..

My first pregnancy, I went to a doctor that insisted I was a week behind, when according to my LMP I wasn't.  However, he determined this due to the first internal ultrasound I got and only saw a sac.  Went back about 8 days later and everything was good.  Also, my neice went to the dr too early with her first pregnancy and the same thing happened to her, so, I wouldn't put too much thought into it yet, even though I totally understand your nerves.  Just try to relax and focus on a happy healthy baby.
