flying with two?

Does anyone have any tips or ideas for vacationing with two kids in carseats? 

When we flew with just Katen we always gate checked her Britax. Now we have two. Do we haul them both through the airports and gate check still? Are they charging for that now? I am not/will not put them with luggage to be thrown around.

We thought about renting carseats through the car rental place. I'm not sure about that. Has anyone done it? It's $12/day which will be kind of pricey for a week times two kids.

Any other tricks? I'll wear Ana on front. I'll either have DH wear Katen or use her monkey backpack with tail. (yes GASP I'll "leash" her for safety sake. )

Maybe you could find them for a better price.  I haven't tried it but I've seen many rolling through airports with happy little kids in them.  My other suggestion would be to buy zipper bags for your car seats to keep them clean and safe and then check with your luggage.  You should never be charged to check a car seat because it's a "necessary safety item."

We haven't traveled yet, but I know that you won't get charged for gate checking your baby items. We always fly delta and they don't charge us for the carseat, stroller, or pack n play. If it is in the "baby item" category, you can check them with no charge. (They even took our luggage one time and said it was a "baby item" ...we didn't correct them lol)
