Baby Names

Clicky Poll: Our LOName

DH and I have long ago decided to name our DS Miles/Myles. We've been calling him by this name when we talk to him and refer to him, but we aren't so sure on the spelling. We like both versions of the spelling, but we have gotten different reactions from friends and family on the spelling.

Some say Miles is strange because of the measurement of distance. Others think Myles is trying to be too trendy. Some love Miles and insist on this spelling. Others say that Myles is the best way to go. Most love the name but aren't sure on the spelling. We were with a group of 10 friends this weekend, and they were completely split 50/50. WDYT?

    Miles Miles Miles MILES!

Myles is just awful and trendy. The 'y' doesn't do anything for the name, except make parents look uneducated.

That...and Myles makes me want to say My-ley or My-lace

ETA: My answer the last time this was asked:

You should spell it the correct way. Miles.

Myles looks illiterate, tacky, and fits the current trend of trying to feminize a name with a 'y' instead of an 'i'. Or maybe the child of a girl on Teen Mom. Honestly, I think Myles is pretty darn awful.

Seeing my sons name (Miles) misspelled just makes me want to cry.

Haha... thank you. We are pretty much thinking along these same lines, but we've had an overwhelming response of people telling us Myles is how it should be spelled. We thought we'd throw it out there one more time before completely deciding.

ETA: Thanks for the link to the other post. That also helps when considering the different spellings. I may be pretty darn convinced that Miles is the way to go.

  • Miles is better. Myles looks more feminine and too cutesy for a grown up.

  • To me, Miles Daniel looks better than Myles Daniel because of the matching i's.

  • Someone else posted this exact question a couple weeks ago.

"Myles" is historically a legitimate boy name but with the recent "y" trend to feminize male names, I'd definitely stick with "Miles."  If I were to see "Myles" printed somewhere, I'd probably assume the name belonged to a girl.

    Love "Miles" though!
