I like this name, but I think that too many English-speakers would pronounce it ILL-uh-REE-uh, instead of ill-AR-ee-uh. Yuck.
My great-grandfather's name was Americo Ilario, so it is on the long list of family names if we have a boy (probably as a mn). I think I like the masculine version better than the feminine, but Hilary has become a feminine name, so maybe it isn't such a good idea.
Hmmm. Not really a fan. I want to think it sounds pretty but...I think it sounds kind of like someone just made it up.
And I also find shortened versions of names important to consider...what would she be called for short? ILL? Lar?
Fair point on the first part if you've never heard the name before, but the Ilarias I know just go by Ilaria, no nn. It doesn't feel like it needs a nn.
I just don't get it. The first letter is lowercase? Doesn't make sense to me.
this totally confuses me. And I still don't understand after her "explanation" about the L.
Her thing with the weird capitalization (from my understanding), is she wouldn't actually write it like that, just with the sans-serif font on here, the capital "i" and lowercase "L" look the same... "Il"... So she was making sure no one got confused about what the first two letters were.
Correct me if I'm wrong, OP.
Also, this name just makes me think of (NERD ALERT) 'Angel.' There was a demon in the last season named Illyria. I'm not a big fan of the name.
Re: ILaria
Italian feminine form of Hilarius. So I guess I would say its hilarious?

I know someone with the name, ILIA, and she says the IL combo is a PITA because any sans serif font gives her trouble. Otherwise she likes her name.
Hmmmm...it's also kind of close to Malaria. But then, so is Malia.

Depending on how it's pronounced, it makes me think of diarrhea or malaria.
