Obviously I know it varies on babies and their stages but I was just wanting imput on if your babies had NICU time when we they born- what were their weights and how did they stay in NICU.
Hopefully my girls will bake a little while longer, however after the past 2 days I'm not sure we will make it to 36 weeks. Right now we are weighing 3 lbs 16 oz and 3 lbs and 4 oz and did get a full dose of steriod shots so doc said by friday night their lungs would be in great shape!
Re: NICU- how long did they stay
I could be wrong (my guys didnt need NICU time) but i think 4 pounds is the limit but i also think it depends on the hospital.
There are a lot of factors such as if they will eat.. holding body temp... weight...etc. DS had a little trouble breathing (common in c-section babies b/c they didnt get squeezed on the way out) and he was taken to the nursery to be observed. DD stayed with us until they knocked me out and they took her to the nursery to be fed since i was out cold.
We got them back at 7am the next day (they were delivered at 10:34 & 10:35 pm. The nurses/docs wanted to make sure i was doing well enough before they tried to let me BF.
We delivered at 36w 6 d. They were each about 4.5 and 5.5 pounds. The worst thing that we had to deal with was DD staying 1 extra day under the bilirubin lights. We were very blessed.
I delivered at 35 weeks exactly. Jonathan was 5 lbs 10 oz and Alaina was 4 lbs 8.7 oz. A was in the NICU overnight for observation and J was in there 16 days. I didn't have any steroid shots.
I was able to stay in the hospital in a courtesy room so we all got to come home together. It also meant I was able to bring Alaina in with me to the NICU so I could nurse them together.
All the nurses told me that girls fare better than boys when born early. In my case it was true. Good luck!
About 35 weeks is my unscientific cutoff. Mine were born 34w4d at 4-9 and 4-13. They both would have been in for 9 days, but my little one crapped blood one night and had to stay a few more day.
Good luck keeping them cooking as long as possible. The NICU is a hard place to be, but the care they received was great. )
32 weeks 2 day
My girls came home on day 21 and my son on day 28 in the NICU. They were all healthy and feeders and growers. I had two doses of steriod shots (4 shots total) at 23 weeks 5 days and 32 weeks even.
oh and mine weighted
3lb 1 oz, 3 lb 5 oz abd 3 lb 14 oz
Hudson and Landry were 34.6 wks when they were born and also stayed in the NICU for two weeks. Hudson was 5.9 lbs and Landry was 4.2 lbs. It was for regulating body temp, eating and growing.
BFP #2 - 12/9/09 After being on bedrest for 10 weeks due to TTTS and hospital bedrest for 4 weeks due to PPROM, my sticky babies are here! Born at 32 weeks!!
