Synagis shots?

Hi...

I'm a new mom to twins girls born at 32 weeks. They spent 18 days in NICU and never had any respiratory problems and never needed oxygen. THey were basically in NICU until they learned how to suck. I received a letter abotu the Synagis shots and I wondered if anyone had experience with them and if they recommend getting them. My girls are not in daycare and do not go to a babysitter so they are not exposed to other children on a regular basis. Advice??

Re: Synagis shots?

  • Congratulations on getting aproved!  Not everyone gets approved for Synagis shots.  Consider yourself lucky.  It doesn't matter if your children aren't exposed to other children, they are exposed to people correct?  They are exposed to you.  RSV is very serious if a premature baby gets it regardless if they had an uneventful NICU stay or not.  Their lungs are still sensitive.  You and I get a cold, they get severe RSV.  Talk to your pedi for more info or google it.  I'm sure you'll want them to have it.  We had it every month last winter.

  • If you qualify get them! IT can't hurt.

  • My son is getting 5 rounds of synagis shots. Starting in October per our Dr.  He stay at home too, but you never know what can happen during the RSV season.
  • I would get them if you can.  We kept our daughter on lock down during rsv season even with getting the shots last year.

  • If you qualify, I absolutely would get them.  They were highly recommended and RSV can be very serious to these little ones.  Even a few weeks early can make a big difference to the lung capacity.

  • Absolutely.  My daughter had them, and stayed really healthy all winter thankfully!!  She was only 4 weeks early, so it took a couple drs letters to get them approved, but she has lung issues so it was WELL worth it to not have that risk!  If you are approved for them, absolutely take advantage of that!
