TTC After a Loss

Holy f'in crap!! Halloween costumes cost a fortune!! nntcalr; dd's mentd)

Holy Bananas!  I just ordered Halloween costumes for the girls.....what a rip off!!  Probably my bad for ordering them straight from the Disney Store (we got a Princess Jasmine and a Cinderella this year).  Between the costumes, the accessories, the s+h and taxes, it came about to be $170.00.  SAY WHAT!?!?  For outfits to wear one fricking night??  WTF was I thinking??  The smarter idea would have been to hit up the dress up isle at Wal-Mart.  Note to self: be smarter in the future!

Then I checked out the limited selection of adult costumes and they were like $80.00.  For an adult costume!  At least a child's costume can be handed down or worn for playing dress up (which I'm hoping is the case at our house).  With an adult costume, once it's been worn it's been seen and done.  You can't really repeat it in future years - that is unless your partying with different crowds from year to year.

Sorry for the vent.  In the past I've either made their costumes or ordered them off ebay.  Might stick to those options next year.

  • That sounds like a ton for kids costumes!  I know my costume last year cost me $80 but kid costumes are a lot smaller than adult costumes so you would think they would be cheaper.

  • Yeah, they're a rip-off.

I found DD an adorable (Carter's) monkey costume at TJ Maxx this year for $12.99.  MUCH better than the $35 or so I spent on her costume last year!

  • Ouch, that is expensive. But I'm sure they'll get used for dress up. We bought our nieces Disney princess dresses a few years ago for their birthdays and they LOVED them. They wore them out they played with them so much. I hope your girls love them too.

  • Oh Zed, I hear ya. DD has been obsessed with Cinderella for a few months and had her heart set on being Cinderella for Halloween. I've been collecting pieces for a while now...glittery silver shoes from Target, a crwon at Walmart, a magic wand from some random kiosk at the mall. All I needed was the blue dress. I had a gift card from Disney Store so we headed there last week. We get there and DD promptly rejects the blue dress because she wants to be Belle. SHE HAS NOT EVEN SEEN BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Just read the book.

So I ended up buying the blue dress, and the yellow one, and all the Belle accessories. I figure that she'll probably change her mind a few times between now and Halloween, and whatever dress she doesn't wear can be for dress up (you know how they love the dresses). Both are hidden away for now. Plus she's my only so I am going to gosh darn spoil her :)

Since B&TB is being released this year as the limited edition they had a special Belle dress. It was like $150!!!! It was freaking ridiculous!!!! We got the cheap one, lol.

  • Wow. Costco, wal-mart and target all have really cute ones for $30 or less. Can you return the ones you just bought, or cancel the order? It just seems excessive for one night for a 5 year old, ya know?

Haven't even checked out their return policy.  I'm on it though.  This is ridiculous.  (granted, our two year old is running around in a Minnie mouse dress that her big sis wore for Halloween three years ago - she's been in this dress for about the past two hours - it was a hand me down from a friend)  I don't know what I was thinking when I clicked "finalize order" - I should have slowly backed away at that time.

  • Zed, the dresses are pretty much the same at target etc. and Disney. Return all the misc. cr-ap like shoes, bouquets, headpieces etc. Target has glitter shoes in pink, red, gold and silver for like $10. The crowns are semi-cheaper too...
