HPV and PG?

I was wondering if anyone else has HPV while pregnant and would share their experience?

I had an abnormal pap last year.  Went in for a colposcopy (Dr. said it looked good and I had mild dsplaysia (sp)  Had a follow-up pap in July (Dr. said that pap came back abnormal and needed another colposcoy in November)  Since then I have change OB's because the old one was too far and I wanted to start a relationship with the new one before I got pregnant.

Surprise I get pregnant!  I was thrilled and nervous.  So the new OB looked at my pap/colposcopy results and says that they just want to take a look at my cervix in November as my cells have changed?  I am very nervous about this.

I am wondering if I should have just stayed with the old OB through all of this?  But the old OB delivery's at a hospital I am not found of and is far away.

I guess this was a vent as well as looking for someone to share their experience...

 Thanks.

Re: HPV and PG?

  • I had mild dysplasia leading up into pregnancy.  It got worse at one point (not enough to require anything more than colposcopy every 6 mo.) and then it got a little better.  I also switched to a new doctor when I got pg.  She says it's not a big deal.  It's not uncommon.  It's not serious.  Even if it did progress into something worse (which she said is unlikely) she would wait until after the baby was born to remove any lesions if necessary.

My mother also had mild dysplasia through pregnancy and she said the pregnancy actually cleared everything up.  Maybe it'll do the same for us???

  • I had mild dysplasia dues to HPV. I had a colposcopy, and a LEEP following the colposcopy. My OB/GYN told me that the cells do have a chance of healing on their own, but she adivsed me to get them removed. She told me that in 10 years, they have the chance of turning into cancer. I had them removed with the LEEP because she suggested it, and because I didn't want the thought of those cells on my mind all the time. But if your OB/GYN doesn't seemed concerned, I wouldn't either. I didn't realize how common it actually was!

Thanks, I am really glad I posted and read this.  I am hoping that it does go away after the baby:)
