I just started going there while pregnant. Honestly, Not so impressed at first. But the first two I have met one doesn't deliver and the other is a nurse practioner. I heard good things about Dr. Wells, Penn, and Lueke.
This is my first pregnancy and I didn't know the right questions and the first dr. wasn't very forthcoming. Questions I have wished I had asked, how many sonograms will I get, what testing do you recommend. Also dr. put me at a due date of the 19th of Feb. when I went for the down syndrome test I was to far along they measured a Feb 6th due date. That was disapointing.
I have another appt. next week. with dr. russell or edwards, I have a list of questions this time.
Also the bad part - he is no longer delivering but a Dr. P totally botched my SSs circumcision (sp) I didn't know this until I started going to them. I have heard good things from nurses at AAMC so I am not discouraged but I am not overjoyed either.
My third appointment is coming up. I will have had a different doctor each time. My first two appointments, I was there approximately 2 hours each, of which I spent about 15 minutes with the doctor (2nd appt with RNP), and 5 minutes getting blood drawn on the second appointment. Both times I left angry that so much of my time was wasted just waiting around. The girl who sets the appointments is not friendly. Also, I wanted Dr. Herman as my doc, but I was told she no longer delivers. So....I'm not trying somewhere else just yet, but I haven't been thrilled with the customer service.

Just an FYI- I have been hearing about a lot of OBs "botching" circs. We were team green with DD and I was so glad she was a girl and we didn't have to deal w/ the whole circ issue that time around, considering the prolonged and scary l&d experience I had. I delivered DS w/ midwives who don't circ (think about it do you really think OBs forte is dealing with little baby penises?) but knew in advance that if we had a boy we would be taking him to Dr. McDermott (a urologist) for his circ.
I believe that a nestie, Lauraanddave, had her DD w/ Capital.
I would ask about their c/sec rate, induction policy, etc.
I used CWC. I didn't really have any complaints at all. At the first apt they basically go over basic info, try to get a heartbeat, etc. If your pregnancy is healthy and normal, you will probably only get one sonogram, the one around 20 weeks. At all your appointments they take your blood pressure, get a urine sample, you meet with every doctor, and hear the heart beat. I was very happy with CWC as an OB. With our next I am going to use a midwife, but it doesn't really have anything to do with CWC, just personal preference after talking to a few friends who have used them. DS circ went fine, I think it was Dr. Edwards that did it. Dr. Herman delivered John, I had a c/s and everything went fine and it was quick. It was 2 days before Christmas so there were some things about the hospital stay we didn't like, but I think that was because we were so close to Christmas.....it's also part of the reason we want to use a midwife next time.

Thanks so much for the info! They are my usual OB/GYN and I see Dr. Keith. But I have only been once for an annual so far and the woman I talked to on the phone didn't seem to really care that I was pregnant. I just didn't want DH to come and not get to see anything. I also might have to change my appointment and was worried about NT scans and such. They just seem so busy when I call to get appointments.

This is how I felt when I went to Annapolis OB-GYN- from everything I have read it's pretty normal for the OB to not want to see you until you are 10+ weeks along. Also I was kind of expecting some warmth from the office staff about being pregnant, but never really got any. I know it's their business and they see pregnant women all day long, but it is a bit of a let down.

Ha, this is so true re: OB office staff. Not that the staff at my office was particularly cold (my OB actually squealed "congratulations!!" at my 8 week appt) but the rest of the staff was so matter-of-fact about everything. Then at a dentist appointment I had to check a box that I was pregnant and the whole staff there was immediately fawning over me.....hahaha.
I have been a paitent with CWC since June 2010, I always have found the staff to be polite and I make early appointments so I will not have to wait long ( waiting is part of the visit anywhere) My first apt was with Edwards, she was great and spent about 20 minutes going through all my questions and doing the exam with heartbeat US to verify Pregnancy. You will get your first picture of LO:)
I have also seen Dr. Penn, when I was 10.5 wks, who I also liked very much, the circumstances were not the best, I had a missed MC and he was the doctor I saw to go through the D&E questions. He was so compassionate as was the staff. I would send any friend of mine there. Maybe I am lucky that I have always had a good experience.
I am pregnant again and have my verification on the 6th of october with Russell. Hopefully I get the same treatment as before.
I hope you have the good experience I did, sounds like there are some people that didnt:(
I have been going to CWC sicne 2006 and I have never had a compliant except for one time that I was scheduled for my annual well in advanced with Dr. Wells and they waited until a week before to call me and tell me she would be on vacation and needed to reschedule.
I was just there last Monday for my first OB appointment. I was supposed to see Dr. Luecke (I normally see her or Dr. Wells), but she was sick that day. Since my hubby took off to come, they were able to get me to see Dr. Prichep. He basically just confirmed my pregnancy (so cool to see the heartbeat), answered our questions, and gave us our first sonogram pic!
I'm headed back for all my blood work on the 4th as well! CWC did say that they will schedule me with different doctors since they cannot guarentee who will be on when I go to deliver
Dr. Wells delivered DS. I absolutely love her. We ended up needing an emergency c/s because things went downhill quick and she was excellent with us and handling our fears with the sudden change of plans. If I have the choice, she's delivering the rest of my children!
Nursed without dairy, egg, soy, peanut, treenut, fish, shellfish or beef for over a year.
Currently tandem nursing dairy, egg, and shellfish free.
DS born via emergency c/s after 20 hrs of labor. DD successful VBAC!
I think this is my first time posting on the Baltimore Babies board!
I have been going to CWC for several years now and love them.
I only had an issue with one doctor while pregnant, a Dr. K, and he is no longer with the practice. I found him to be very rude, he was especially rough/rude with me right after my c/s when he was checking my incision and feeling to see if things were shrinking the way they were supposed to be (even my DH observed that and said something to him, and another doctor at the practice later), and just wasn't very personable at all. In fact, when he gave me the results of the 20 week u/s, he basically said that something might be wrong with the baby and I'd have to go back to get an answer, he threw a referral at me, and left the room. I managed to hold it together until I got to the car and called my mom and DH in tears, not because of the baby (the thing that might have been wrong, which wasn't, was something superficial and not life-threatening), but because of how he'd treated me. I'm glad he's gone.
Dr. Luecke and Dr. Wells delivered DD and both were awesome. Dr. Wells admitted me when I went on bedrest for pPROM and she was great - I was obviously a nervous wreck and she was wonderful. I think I saw Dr. Luecke the most during my hospital stay. She's very intense, as in she'll give you tons of information, but she's also very personable. I never felt like I was "just another patient" when I saw her, Dr. Wells, or Dr. Keith (I saw those three the most in the hospital).
I only saw Dr. Penn after being admitted to the hospital, but he was fantastic - I think he was recently made chief of o/b or something at AAMC. Anyway, he was great. I also saw Dr. Keith frequently while I was in the hospital and she is very comforting - stayed for a while to answer questions I had about preemie births, etc. She's delivered babies for two friends of mine and in both cases the women were admitted right as Dr. Keith's shift was ending, but she stayed with them both for the entire labor and delivery and they both loved her.
The only negative thing is that it seems to be so hard to get an appointment. When I had my annual exam this year, I called exactly 3 months ahead (when their appointment books open) and every single doctor was already booked. I wound up seeing a nurse practitioner (I've seen her before) and it was fine, but kind of annoying.

The weird thing is, that neither my old OB, or my midwife ever gave me "instructions" on what I should or should not eat/drink, etc.
I also never asked. I asked my old OB about self-tanner and he laughed at me.
