Preemies

Presents to the NICU

So my twin boy's 1st bday is coming up and I wanted to make up a little care package for current families with little ones in the NICU (20 beds max). So far I have kangaroo charms, then I was thinking tissues, water bottles, snacks....any creative ideas??? I don't want to go overboard in price but want to do something as a way of "giving back". I'm also going to bring 100 cupcakes in for the staff as baby b was in for exactly 100 days. TIA!

Re: Presents to the NICU

  • Are there any coffee shops or fast food restaurants near the hospital?  You could do a $5 gift card to Starbucks (coffee shop) or Subway (fast food restaurant).  $5 x 20= $100.  I needed my hot chocolate from Starbucks (they have sandwiches too).  I really wanted sandwiches after I gave birth--because it was a  taboo item when I was pregnant--I still sneaked a couple of sandwiches.

  • I don't have any ideas at the moment but I just wanted to say "wow"!  That is so incredibly thoughtful and kind of you to do something like that.  I'm sure the parents will greatly appreciate your gift.

*Just thought of something* - a notepad and pen. There has been so many times I needed to jot down questions to ask the nurses and never had anything to write with.

  • Maybe a disposable camera to leave at the bedside for the nurses to use when the parents can't be there?

I was going to say this too. I donated 20 cameras and have been told they have come in very handy.

  • Thanks girls! Yeah, I had thought about the notepad and pen and cameras as well. I had a "fav" pen that I used everyday to write down their stats:) Didn't know if I could spark any other "creative" ideas. There really isn't any coffee shops beside McD's in walking distant...yuck. The gift shop in the hospital serves Starbucks but not sure if they accept g.c.

Something that the nursery never had was burpcloths! The problem is though that L&D always ends up with them....otherwise I'd get a bunch of those:/

I also found a great idea to do for Christmas if you can spare the $$ and/or have a "small" NICU. There's a lady on etsy that makes texture blankets and she has a small one with animals including kangaroos! She's offering me a deal for purchasing 20 and of course 2 for my boys;) Small world....she had preemies herself!

I'm obsessed with kangaroos symbolizing preemies lately...and to the point that they're going to be kangaroos for Halloween!
