Is "stealer" a word?

It sounds so podunk and illiterate.  Especially for a (teacher).

Re: Is "stealer" a word?

  • It is in Pittsburgh.  Oh wait...that's "Steeler"
  • I'm with you on this BUT found this when I googled it.  Yes I'm lame but I'm trying to keep my mind off a family crisis right now.

Noun 1. stealerstealer - a criminal who takes property belonging to someone else with the intention of keeping it or selling it

  • While it's a real word, it's not the klassy choice.

I am still trying to get past 'me and my husband' and 'lier'.

I was on my phone last night and couldn't post but just kept saying to myself, "I think that IS a word, but it's awful. Nearly as awful as this entire thread." If they're all so smart, why wouldn't she just use "thief"?

  • Calling somene a stealer just sounds juvenile.  About as juvenile as she is in thinking her DD was stealing from her and calling her names because of it.  I just don't get how she can't wrap her head around the fact that her DD did not take the money with the intent to steal it.  To me, a three year taking something is more like "Ohhhh! Look at that!  How neat!"  and then losing interest and forgetting about it comepletely until mom starts screaming at her to give her the money back.  Does the kid even know what money is?  Can she relate it to what she had earlier?  There is no way I would ever expect my 3 year old to know what he did with something he had 20 mins ago.

That mom needs a serious reality check.

Wow... That post makes me really sad for her daughter. Sad I've definitely made mistakes as a parent, but a) I realize them and b) I've NEVER ignored my DS because of something he did. Poor kid...

  • That is so funny that you wrote this because the whole time I was reading that post I was thinking how much I thought that it sounded so stupid! Just say thief! LOL!

Also, the "lier" - too funny...

  • Of course it is  -- as in - stealing stealer who steals.

  • I was wondering the same thing. It sounds like something George W Bush would say, in fact, hasn't he?? Maybe that is where she learned the term.
