TTC After a Loss

Called my OB's office today about hCG levels and ...

So I called my OB's office today just to see if my OB would order lab tests to monitor my hCG levels (in honesty to give me piece of mind that they are going down) and my OB herself called me back (to which I was pleasantly surprised, it is a big office so I definitely didn't expect her to call.)

So after about 15 min on the phone she said the following....

1.  She doesn't routinely monitor hCG levels after D&C but if my AF hasn't returned by 6 week f/u appt we may look into it.

2.  They can do "official" PCOS testing when my pregnancy hormones go all the way down but since Metformin helped to regulate cycles previously, chances are don't really need "official" testing.

3.  She is having me go back on Metformin (500mg/day) which I will resume taking tomorrow in hopes that that will continue to regulate my previously looong cycles (50-60+days).

4.  She doesn't think m/c was due to genetic reasons, but more due to something they had expected (due to extremely high risk of TTTS) but happened sooner than later - unfortunately won't ever know true reason as no testing was done after D&C.

5. Once I get AF #1, we are good to go for TTC again - this was the best part and brightened my whole day Big Smile

So here's to hoping I get AF soon and BFP soon after that with take home baby (note singular version of noun - see sig)!!!

  • Crossing my fingers that AF will return soon.

What does TTTS stand for, I have not seen that abreviation before.

  • Loading the player...
  • TTTS = Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (the 3 babies all shared one placenta, so chances are the blood supply was shared and if severe enough can lead to abnormal blood flow and intrauterine fetal demise.  Only 15% chance w/ identical twins, but identical triplets are sooo rare the statistics are unknown).

  • It sounds like you had a good phone call.  My OB doesn't follow you down to 0 either unless something is going on that makes her suspect it is necessary.  She had me POAS at 6 weeks (bfn thank goodness!) post d&c and start provera since AF was in hiding.

I know you are nervous about the metformin, but if it is regulating your cycles it is a good thing.  I'm surprised you are only on 500 mg/day.  It sounds like that dose works for you though.

Here is a link that talks a good bit about PCOS and fertility.  About 1/3 of the way down the page it talks about PCOS and metformin.   https://www.ivf.com/pcostreat.html
