Hospital stay attire

I'm mentally packing my hospital bag... and don't know exactly what I'd be wearing.  I was thinking of comfy nursing PJs.  What do you all think?  If you wore the same, where did you find yours?  I went yesterday to Target and they didn't have any in the store.

Thanks.

Re: Hospital stay attire

  • I stayed in the hospital gowns. there is SO much blood. I bled throught the pad and onto the gown. I would have been upset if i ruined my own stuff! the hospital gowns snap down at the shoulder for nursing.
  • I wore a pair of comfy nursing jammies - more like a night gown than two piece.  I got mine at Motherhood.  There is no way I could have worn pants after my c/s.  I also liked having my nursing bra on.  The first night I stayed in the hospital gown.

  • The birthing class instructor said that for sure, if nursing, to take nursing PJs / tanks etc.

She also said that night 1 you should stay in hospital gown for same reason Mel mentioned.  I had to wear one last wk, and I was so uncomfortable in it... and trying to "hide" my stuff was horrible... and w/ the amount of visitors I suspect sill be there, I wanted to make sure I was in something 1) comfy and 2) not revealing.

I was thinking of taking black PJs so if they do stain, they aren't immediately noticable, and when washed, if it doesn't come out completely, it isn't noticable.

  •  I worse nursing PJ's for night time and I got them at Motherhood as well. During the day, I could not stand to be in the hospital gowns. I felt as if I was entangled in them. lol So what I did is I brought comfy maternity jogging pants (from Target) and a T-shirt.

  • The first day I stayed in the hospital robe too (for the same reasons posted above) and wore my own robe when I had visitors.  The second day I did change to my own pj's (not the nursing kind, but with easy access Stick out tongue) and covered up with the robe.

    Yep!

I wore the hospital gown for the first day or so because of the bleeding.

Then I had some nursing bras and tanks and wore black pajamas.  If you are wearing a tank, you can just lift the PJ top up.

omg, you bleed SO MUCH.  there's no way you're going to want to put on any pants for a day or two after you have the baby lol  after about 2 days, i put on pants, but I never really got out of bed when I had visitors, so I would just wear a tight tank top and cover up my bottom :)

  • maybe my response is different because I did not have a vaginal birth but as soon as I was able to, I changed clothes. I couldn't stand being in the hospital gown, I wanted to wear my own stuff ASAP.
  • I was in the hospital gown until about 7pm the day J was born then I put on this black jersey knit tunic that was long enough to be a nightgown/dress over my nursing tank (got both at target) the next day I put on my black yoga/capri pant thingies and my nursing tank. I also brought a robe to cover up in. Yes, you do bleed a lot but the nurses tell you to put the giant pad and then they fold up one of those bed pad thingsand you put that there too and the mesh panties. I felt more comfortable with the pants on because it helped me feel like things weren't gonna "fall out".

  • I brought three nightgowns, all dark colors in case of bleeding. I had a c/s and was out of the hospital gown as quick as I could get out of it.. which was the next morning (I had the baby at 6pm the night before). I didn't bleed too much where it ruined anything. I also brought a robe which was nice. I brought enough night gowns for each day I thought I'd be in there so that when I took a shower I could put something clean on after being in a hospital bed all day.. Also, I liked being able to wear the sleep nursing bras.
