DH and I would like to honor my family with DS #1's name. We've been considering using my dad's name, Alvin, as the middle name. It's not our favorite name but I do like it, especially since it would be after my dad, the problem that we're having is that it doesn't flow well with our current first name selections of Tristan and Cameron. Recently I also thought of using Colton as a first name, which is a maiden name in my family with the T added in.
Any suggestions for a first name that goes well with Alvin? Or do you think we should go with these:
Tristan Alvin
Cameron Alvin
Colton James
Colton Alvin
Re: Honoring family - Help
Colton is not bad...I just believe if you are going to honor a family name, then use the actual name, otherwise it is a different name.
I agree w/ you about Alvin. What about your dad's mn as a mn option?
I agree.

I love the idea of honoring family members.
However, I am not a fan at all of changing names when honoring family member/names though -your idea of Colton. I feel like that defeats the purpose. Just my opinion.
Between Tristan and Cameron, I think Tristan flows better with Alvin.
First of all, I'm REALLY sorry that "Colon" is a family name. Yikes.
I don't think that "Colton" has any connection to it. (I also don't like the name Colton.)
I'm not a big stickler for the "middle name must flow" chant that's so popular around here, but Tristan Alvin sounds really good together. Cameron Alvin, not so much, because you've go the assonance with a very different rhythm.
Also, Tristan is very much a boy's name, whereas Cameron is pretty unisex and becoming more girly all the time (especially with all the "girly" alternate spellings like Camryn and Kamerin). I think if you go with Tristan, you will be happier, as I'm pretty sure Cameron's about to flip to the girl's side. I knew a Lindsay (boy) growing up and he always said he was the last male Lindsay born, and it sucked.
Thanks for all the advice! And btw, Allie30 Colon isn't a family name just a maiden name within the family that I thought I could slightly alter to make a first name. I can't imagine anyone with the first name as Colon...that would be yikes!
Out of Tristan Alvin and Cameron Alvin, DH and I prefer Tristan Alvin but I still dislike the double -n endings. DH also suggested Parker Alvin and Cooper Alvin. I really am liking Cooper Alvin right now! Wdyt?!
