Just spoke to the day care that we have the best chance of getting into - they told me the vacant spots won't be open until December.
So now I'm looking at in home care to fill the gap...I could always ask MIL to watch them for those 6-8 weeks but, well - you know. We shall call that Plan Z.
You wouldn't think a town this size with so many day care centers would have such a shortage of places. We must have a crazy baby boom or something. Blah.
Re: ugh...day care drama...
Oh boo! I am so sorry. I hope spots open up for you...I cannot even imagine trying to find someone with experience with twins! Perhaps someone who has had 2 under 2 might suffice?
We have our own daycare drama brewing...J has decided to start his RN classes in January rather than wait until next Fall (as originally planned...he still has some prereqs for his BS to get out of the way between now and next Sept.) so that means we'll need to do daycare for Libby starting in January rather than next September! So, yeah, we needed to be on waiting lists a while ago to get ready for January! *sigh*

Maybe it's just me or where I live but the daycare centers seems SO much more safe and better over all than the in home situations. Again, it could be where we live.

Yes, for us, too. It could also be that I don't know anyone very well in my area to give a personal referral to a home day care, too. I'd want to know someone who went there.
This could be, before my SIL opened her day care, I got TONS of suggestions for in home care and TONS of people who said "don't go to X day care".
I have a friend that takes her son to KinderCare in the area and SEVERAL times her DH has picked him up and he's had a binky in his mouth... the kid doesn't take a binky at home and her DH has told them this TONS of times, he's 6 months old so who knows how many times he's had a binky at day care or who's binky it is?!! EW! I also have a friend in Seattle that takes her DS to a day care center and she had to change centers because he was sick at least 3 times a month, causing her to miss work. Bella has only missed day care 3 times in the whole time she's been there.
Either way, I would just ask PLENTY of questions about what toys are cleaned with and how often they are cleaned. I would also be sure to do a drop in visit unannounced, many centers in our area don't allow that. If it's not allowed, I wouldn't be taking my child there... that's just my opinion.

Going on what the other mamas I know have told me, there are a LOT (as in the majority) of in home daycare providers here who aren't that great. Generally people only hire them if they can't get into or can't afford a center. Most of them aren't really interested in child care as a career, just a way to get a bit of extra cash, and they more or less just park your baby in front of a TV all day.
Obviously I can check them out before choosing one, but I'm a bit depressed at the idea of having to visit 50 peoples' homes before going, "Well, this one seems like the least crappy." And I know I could get lucky...but I guess I'm just not counting on it.
