Rude comment

My friend, her DH, and their 2 yo DD came over earlier.  We were talking about our kids - I made a comment about how skinny my DS was getting (he was the chubbiest baby).  My friend's DH mentioned how tall their DD was getting, and I agreed.  My DS walked up and my friend's DH said, "You must be embarrassed to have a younger girl be almost taller than you, huh?"

My friend got snippy with him.  I said, "Why would you say that to a child?"

Re: Rude comment

  • So the friends husband commented to the kid about being older but shorter than girl??

    That's not a big deal.

actually, it seems he insinuated the child should feel ashamed of his body.  In my book, that is a big deal. Why should a child ever feel ashamed or embarrassed of their body shape?

  • Yah, that was pretty thoughtless.  DS is small for his age and I wouldn't take too kindly to anyone pointing that out to him.  I'm sure he knows, but he doesn't adults making it an issue for him.

  • I totally agree that no child should be ashamed of his/her body shape and that it's not right to tease a child about something he/she can't change, but I have to admit that we tease that DD is going to be taller than DS some day and she'll be the one defending him on the playground.  She's almost 2 years younger than him.  We don't tease him to his face though.
