1st Trimester

Need some advise.. (kinda long sorry!)

We are trying to figure out if I should just stay with my fertility doctor until we see a heartbeat or not since we didnt see it yesterday - or if I should call my regular obgyn and get an appointment there. The fertility doc says to wait until they clear me first but they have no been very helpful through this. First when my levels did not double right away they told me to fear the worst... then they doubled and they said this still is probably not normal. I had a tiny bit of brown spotting and when he walked in he said "Well we knew this was going to happen - we were pretty sure you were ectopic." However... I am not! They saw the sac and yolk sac and said well this is all I would expect to see (5 weeks and a couple days pregnant) but dont get your hopes up. So I finally went it yesterday for what he said was (and I quote exactly) "Do or die day" and we did not see a heartbeat. They said well this is obviously not normal and will probably not work this time but at least you got pregnant. DH has been wondering why I have been such a 'debbie downer' but after coming to the appointment with me yesterday he understands because the doctors are so negative!! Now they did get me pregnant - I will give them that and I go next friday to see if there if anything and if not they will decide whether or not to end it. I am so lost. I am considering calling a regular ob and asking for an appointment. Maybe they would be more positive. From what you ladies and the may mom said there are PLENTY of reasons we may not have seen the heartbeat yet! What do you ladies think? DH actually said "ask the bump girls." ANY opinions would be great! We are at a loss right now.

  • Call your regular obgyn...that's what I would do.

  • I think that it wounld not hurt to get another opinion. My sister in law has had some fertility issues (3 failed) and she is now 5 months pregnant! Her Dr. wouldn't even look for the heartbeat untill she was 7 weeks. At seven weeks they saw the heartbeat, but their Dr. told them not to get there hopes up becuase the heart beat was very low.If it was me, I would make an appoinment with my OB. What could it hurt? Good Luck!!!! I'll keep you and your husband in my prayers!
  • Geez they are really negative! It's bad enough we worry to begin with, we do not need such negative drs.  I have my first(early) US schedule for 6w4d and they already said that could be too early to see anything so I have another scheduled a week later.  I would call your OB to get their opinion.  Good luck I hope everything works out!

  • Wow!  your RE sounds like a giant douchebag!  I hope you were just too early to see a h/b, but i can tell you what, i would not want to go back to that dr. and  would find a new RE if this pregnancy doesn't work out for some reason.  in the meantime i would contact your OB.  GL!

  • Hello fellow Raleigh bumpie! I would call your OB for a second opinion. It's not fair that you are going through the emotional uncertainty with an unsupportive Dr. I am glad that your husband went with you and got to see why you have been acting with doubt about the experience.

What OB practice are you in here?

  • Hello! Nice to see another raleigh bumpie! I see Centre OB right now but might move to Wilkerson. Do you have any suggestions??
  • I am at Physicians for Women in Cary. I am new to the practice since we just moved here in April but LOVE everyone so far. They have delivered most of the kids on my street and everyone seems to be very happy with them from BFP to delivery. I had some spotting adn cramping at 5/6 weeks and they immediately got me in for an u/s. I had a missed miscarriage last year at 12 weeks so they have been wonderful in handling all of my crazy calls to the on call nurse and seeing me whenever I want. At my last appointment they even told me to just call anytime I wanted to get an u/s with my history if I just needed to put my mind at ease. At that point, I knew I made the right decision to join the group.
