I'm a PhD student and while I have plenty of work that could keep me occupied every single second of every single day, I'm not willing to live and breathe my work (although I love it). However, I need something else to occupy my time instead of watching tv or laying on the bed staring at the fan. I just don't seem to be interested in anything right now. I have at least four pregnancy books laying around waiting for me to read, but I'm not even interested in reading them most of the time.
I used to be very musical, but I feel weird playing my flute in an apartment where I might bother my neighbors. One of my cats also hates it; she nips at me whenever I play!
I've tried knitting, but I wasn't great at it and have never finished a project. I suppose I could trying getting back into it, but I'm just not crazy about it.
Any suggestions?
Re: I need a hobby
Do you have time to join any organizations? You could join the community symphony or band. Ours meets once a week in the late evening because everyone in it is professionals of some sort.
Do you scrapbook? You could start doing one for your pregnancy and future LO. My MIL makes scrapbooks predone for the first year as gifts because the mom's are always so busy. So there's a page for each holiday, every big moment (first bath, first haircut, ect) and then a bunch on non-descript pages. So filling the book is super fast and doesn't take away from the mom's sleep/free time.
I personally read a fair amount. I used to crochet and cross stitch but not so much anymore. My favorite hobby is cooking/baking. However thanks to future LO that's no longer my favorite hobby... stupid m/s lol
I find crocheting more fun than knitting.
Here are my hobbies:
Photography (LOVE, especially if you have kids)
Cooking
Blogging
Reading
Gardening
Decorating/organizing
I use to scrapbook and really enjoy it but I got out of it when I had LO (ironic I know) because of lack of time and LO likes to 'help' which isn't very conductive to finishing pages. I thought of starting digital scrapbooking but I haven't got around to it because DS, other hobbies, and keeping up with house work keeps me pretty darn busy.
Okay to me Knitting is hard LOL try crocheting its much easier. Although I know getting a PhD is a lot more work I'm currently getting my Masters and I know how it feels...you just want to get away from it for a while.
I am currently making a baby blanket and I think its looking great (I think lol). They have great tutorials on youtue. Good luck
