first of all, i'm sorry i've been so scarce on the board lately--qualifying exam preparation is killing me. i hope everyone is doing okay!
i just got back from our MFM appointment. here is the update (i'm cheating cutting and pasting from an e-mail to my family here):
we were told that the plan would be definite as of today. ha ha ha . . .
the cutoff was supposed to be that if the placenta was 1.5 cm from the cervix or less, we had to do a c-section at 37 weeks because it was too dangerous to let the pregnancy go any further (due to bleeding risks). well, now it's at 1.6 cm. the doctor that i saw today was of the opinion that this 1 mm difference was enough to change the plan from a 37 week c-section to a 39.5 week induction. especially given the uncertainty in ultrasounds, the 1 mm that's making a difference isn't making me feel terribly reassured, given how adamant they were that a 1.4 or 1.5 cm distance definitely mandated an early c-section.
and, things STILL aren't certain because due to the ambiguity of my case, the decision won't be final until the doctors have their weekly meeting next wednesday and discuss my case. last week i was told it was safe to assume c-section, today i was told it was safe to assume not . . . ugh!!!!
unfortunately, i've already re-scheduled my qualifying exam (it will be in 6 or 7 days). it is going to be extremely difficult to get ready in such a short period of time, and i'm sick at the thought that the rush might be for nothing.
i'm also blowing up like a balloon with fluid (gained 8 pounds in the last week), so we're a bit on the alert for pre-eclampsia now, even though my blood pressure is fine.
i should end this on a positive note, though, which is the most important note: the baby is doing fine. he weighs 6 lbs 3 oz and everything continues to look normal and healthy.
i will probably be scarce over the next week but will let you guys know if there are any updates.
Re: placenta continues to taunt us
Unbelieveable! I'm sorry this continues to be a problem for you!!!
Good luck with your exam!

TTC #2 - May 2012 -IUI #2: BFP
I am so glad to hear that the baby is doing well!
I know it stinks big time to have to reschedule your exam (and maybe for nothing), but I have a feeling that you are going to be so preoccupied over the coming weeks that you might be happy to have it over with once it is done
Good luck!!!

Sheesh. I keep hoping things will start to go smoothly, but you keep being strung along... You are right, though, that a healthy LO is the most important part!
