Question for you ladies who embroider clothing

I am very interested in learning how to monogram Adalyn's clothes, bibs, etc. So for you ladies who DIY, can you suggest what type of embroidery machine you use? I have done some research but this is very foreign to me so I don't really know what I should even be looking for!  I would really like to take this up as a hobby!

I do not embroider clothes simply because the machines are soooo expensive.  I have a business where I make hairbows and tutus and that type of thing and if we want something embroidered we found someone on craigslist to do it for us.  We just posted under baby and kids......arts and crafts....artists....something to the effect of "Looking for someone with an embroidery machine who would like to make a few extra $$"  and found someone in a day.  We just drop stuff off with her when we need it embroidered.  We couldn't find a decent machine for under $300 not including thread and all that.

I bought a used Husqvarna Viking #1 for $500. It's a great machine and embroiders beautifully. New machines are an upwards of 10k!!

You may consider buying used. I bought mine from a local dealer. She is wonderful and will help me with anything that has to do with the machine!
