Last night, DH and I decided to make meatballs for dinner. I told him that he had to help because I had a long day and really wasn't in the mood to roll out about 3 dozen meatballs, but we did. The moment we sat down to dinner, which was at 6:45pm, DH gets a phone call. His mom called and said that she was bored and wanted to go look at some of the things at BRU that we decided we wanted to put on our registry. I was really tired and had already put my pajamas on, but I decided to try and do the right thing (my MIL and I don't have the best relationship) and go out to show her the things we want.
We get to BRU and we start to show her around. We showed her the stroller we liked and she was kind of ambivalent about but whatever. Then we get to the pack and play section and show her the one we like and all she can say is how much she likes a different better. After that we move over to the bedding and show her the jungle theme bedding we like (we're finding out the sex but are still going to be Team Green) and all she has to say is that nothing she's made us has any of the colors that were in the bedding we liked. This basically threw me over the edge. I can't believe that she would have the nerve to go and start making things for our baby without first asking us what colors we were going to do the room in.
Over the 30 minutes that we stayed in the store, I don't think I heard one nice word come out her mouth. Everything was just either sooo expensive or didn't match what she wanted. Well this is my baby not her's. I deserve to have things the way I want them.
Sorry this was so long. I needed to get this off my chest. Thanks ladies!
Re: MIL rant (kinda long)
Argh. That would drive me nuts. I am so thankful I don't have family like that. I am sorry I don't have any advice on how to handle her, except to let it roll off your back.
