We bought one shortly after DD came home (11/09) and in spite of the (voluntary) recall, I would absolutely do it again. We were dealing with terrible reflux and the Nap Nanny was the only way ANY of us slept. I was okay with her sleeping in it because 1) she was 12" away from me in a cradle and 2) she was still on her apnea monitor.

Sounds like the same thing with my DD. How long did you use the nap nanny for? Did her reflux eventually go away? DD's reflux med doesn't really seem to be working too well. We need another solution so we can all sleep at night.
The recall somewhat annoys me...it's terribly sad that a baby died, but the instructions say to only use it on the floor! It's like recalling a car because someone sped and got into an accident.
Anyway, I haven't used it, but I've heard great things about it!

morgan - we purchased the Nap Nanny in November when she came home (got it from another reflux mom) and used it until February - March. We knew it was time to get rid of it when she started rolling over and we'd find her laying on her belly in it...not very comfortable. The cradle that we used it in was just slightly wider than the NN so it was pretty crammed in there - there was no way she could get stuck between the NN and the rails.
(Note: the product instructions actually say that it's not for sleeping... um...what the hell is it for then?)
As for reflux, DD was diagnosed while in the NICU - her's was severe enough that, in addition to projectile vomitting at least once per feeding, it also affected her O2 requirements. She was started on Zantac before discharge and we always added rice cereal to thicken her feeds. Once she was home (and after a LOT of research on my part) we changed from NeoSure (milk based) to Nutramigin (hypoallergenic) and it made a WORLD of difference for us. We were discharged from our GI doc about four months after Sarah came home - we weaned her from the Zantac (I'm not convinced it was doing much anyway) over those four months and now she seems to be completely over the reflux (14mos).
There are a lot of relux moms on the "private" board preemiepalace.com - they might have good advice for you as well.
ETA: Once we were finished with the NN we sold it on Craigslist for exactly what we paid for it.
We have one that we don't use anymore because DS's reflux is better and I don't want him to unnecessarily sleep on the floor. It really helped DS, though. The "recall" is really just a video saying follow the damn directions correctly or your baby might be injured or even killed! If you use it correcly, your baby will be ok.
