Baby Names

Kolby

What do you think of this name? I mean, I know it sounds like cheese. But do you hate it? My husband HATES this name.. no we are not talking about baby names yet in detail but of course I have that one that I was stuck on when I was pregnant with my son and it popped in my head again..

You hate it?

Re: Kolby

  • I prefer the name to be spelled Colby.  But to be completely honest I do not hate the name.  Just think that there will be a lot of cheese and basketball references.

  • I hate the alternative spelling. Colby is perfectly fine.

  • Hate it! Colby is bad enough, but to toss a "K" on it?! Blech.
  • I prefer it spelled Colby. I like it...makes me think of the hottie Colby Donaldson from Survivor a few years back. Yum

  • I don't like Colby....Kolby is just horrible, sorry.

Why a basketball reference? I also think of cheese when I hear it. Please don't give him a MN of Jack. Surprise

  • Spelled with a "C"--it's a very decent name. It sounds a little young, but I think it's versatile enough to match a variety of personalities.

Spelled with a "K"--don't do it! I know there's a sometimes an urge to change letters to add a little flair. Unless an alternative spelling has a cultural basis, though, I would strongly advise against it.

If your husband hates the name, though--why even go there? I think you will both be happier if you find a name you both really like, not that one is stuck on and the other doesn't care for. It takes a little work to get there, but you've got plenty of time!

  • I heart it for a boy.  Prefer with a "C" but K is okay too.
  • DH is a Colby. It seems like it's becoming a more common name. I know a few LO's named Colby/Colbie (boy/girl respectively) now. Maybe I just notice the name more b/c DH is a Colby....

    agree

  • I don't care for the name period, but the K spelling makes it even worse, I'm sorry to say.  I think Ks in place of Cs just look cheap.

Maybe they are thinking of Kobe?

And sorry, Kolby is horrible. Colby is  bad enough. The only thing worse would be Kolbie, followed by Kolbi. I knew a guy named Kodi once. Parents just don't think!

  • CHEESE!!!

My FI has a friend named Colby, and all they call him is "Cheese".

Dangit, now I want some kettle corn and cheddar cheese....yum.

  • No on Kolby. Possibly on Colby.

  • I like the name, but do agree that it shouldn't be spelled with a K.
