appetite advice

as i mentioned below, sarah is a big girl.  With that comes appetite.  Oh my.  Let me say that all the food she's eating must be turning into height because she's only in the 50% for weight.  That being said, she eats THREE stage 2 foods in one sitting... 3 times a day.  That's 12 oz in one sitting and about 1 1/2 hours later, she's sucks down close to 6 oz of formula.  She's eating 36 ounces of food a day plus about 24 ounces of formula.  Doesn't that seem like a LOT??  she doesn't nibble throughout the day like Abby used to.... Abby would eat 1/2 a stage 2 then an hour later eat the rest of it and then drink some milk, come back to it, etc... this one just eats it all in one setting.

I think Peter mentioned it to the pedi today and she didn't seem concerned, but I wasn't at the appointment and I feel like I should've stressed it more.  Is this normal??  Or is it because she's just going through these massive growth spurts that she's probably eating that much?  Any one have insight?  tia!

  • Yeeps! That definitely seems like a lot.  Maybe start the stage 3's that have the textured pieces in them.  They are 6 oz each and more filling than the purees.

Adrianna has a pretty big appetite, but nowhere that big and her meals and bottles are spaced out by 2.5 - 3 hours..  For breakfast she eats 2 tablespoons of cereal and a stage 2 fruit, for lunch a stage 2 veggie and a stage 1 fruit, and for dinner a stage 2 meat/veggie meal. She drinks 24 oz of formula a day.

I remember Nicky eating two stage 2's at each meal by this age, even though he was a smaller baby than her weight-wise. I started him on the stage 3's around 6.5 or 7 months old.

  • You might try more filling foods.  Kate started real food much sooner than Noah ever did.  We would cut meat up really small and mix it in with her purees.  She also had a giant appetite.  Maybe try to snack her on puffs or cheerios?

I agree with more filling foods. But I could see why the pedi didn't seem too concerned...she's in the 50th percentile in weight...as long as she is not losing it shouldn't be a problem.
