I have almost always gone by "Caroline" because there are no nicknames for it that I like. Before I was old enough to express my preferences though, my family called me "Carly." This random thought got me pondering nicknames - especially ones that are really unusual for the name (a pp's example was "Tetty" for "Elizabeth").
What have you heard?
One of my sisters went by "Tachi" for Natasha.
Re: strange nicknames for common names?
DH's aunt is Rosann, but everyone calls her Bootsie.
Over the years, my sisters and I have all ended up with shortened versions of our first names for nicknames, but not ones that make sense to most people. Jessica = Jae, Rachael = Rae, Danielle = Dee.
My cousin is Elizabeth. We call her EB. Pronounced like two separate letters... E-B.
My grandmother was Florence and she was Pinky.
Set to welcome the craziness in April 2014!
My parents named my oldest sister Mary Katherine, but never called her Mary ever.. they have always called her Katie. I think they were just trying to be good Catholics.
We have a good family friend that goes by Tree. Her name is Theresa, lots of people call her Teri, but her closest friends and family call her Tree.

I've always thought Jack was a strange NN for John. I like the name Jack, but who decided it was short for John? I mean its not even shorter! Also *** for Richard and Bob for Robert.
Edit Guess the name D!ck is a bad word. Oops.

I wonder why Buffy?!
Me neither!

Nobody in my entire family goes by our given name:
Mom-Mary= Maggie...Dad-Stephen= Steve...Sister-Christine=Chrissy...Brother-Steven=Stevie..Sister- Maureen= Mo, Mosey, Moser (haha she has a million nicknames)
None of them are weird but my name is Elizabeth and I go by Lizzy but my grandpa nicknamed me Wheezy.
My poor SO is Brian John and his family calls him BJ haha poor guy
My name is Melissa, but my guy friends gave me the nickname Mel when I was in high school. Apparently they didn't realize, or didn't care, that Mel is actually the customary nickname for Melanie. Now my friends, DH, his family, & his friends all call me Mel. It's caused some problems for me over the years....
My mom hates nicknames & always insists on calling me Melissa, but DH originally met me as "Mel", and his huge extended family & group of Boy Scout friends & their families all know me as Mel. When my mom sent out invitations for my bridal shower & our wedding, she insisted on putting "Melissa" on everything. DH's mom had lots of relatives calling her, asking who this "Melissa" was, they'd never met a "Melissa." SIL's best friend, who went out w/ us for my bachelorette party, got the wedding invitation the next day & put it aside b/c she didn't recognize the name on it. Everyone knew me as Mel, nobody recognized my real name. I now find it very funny.
My MIL is Beverly but her whole family and anyone who knew her as a kid calls her Becky to this day. It has nothing to do with her name or middle-which is Alice. I think the story is one parent preferred Becky to Beverly to begin with, so that's how it started.
My SO... His name is actually Steven. No one knows it though, lol. I didn't know his real first name for the first 4 months he and I were together - everyone calls him Guff. My mom hates the fact that I don't call him by his first name, and that he doesn't respond when anyone says Steven or Steve.
Also - no one is really sure how he became Guff... He moved to WV, and he's been Guff ever since, lol.
No fertility care this time, and post cancer treatment! Hooray!
Total Thyroidectomy for Papillary Thyroid Cancer in 2013
My grandma is Marcella and she goes by Sally. Same thing happened to my brother when he got married. He was going to put Sally (last name) on her invite, which was a very formal affair. Luckily I got to proof the guest list first and corrected him. He never knew her real name.
My Uncle Phillips goes by Flip. His wife, Jane, goes by Tink.
=]
My Aunt Marianne has always been called "Mersey" (pronounced Mair-zee) Its from some old rhyme about mersey oats or something like that. No one calls her Marianne.
I don't dislike any of these really - I just can't fathom how they come from the names!

my husband's name is Jose and everyone on his mom's side calls him "Joey"... My name is Heather, and everyone calls me "Heath" (not the boys name Heath, but chop the "er" off "Heather" and you'll have my nn)... My cousin's name is Brian, but everyone (and I mean EVERYONE, even teachers) call him "Fuzzy"...
...pretty much everyone I know has a weird nn... even our dog Caesar has a million nn's (Sleazy, Sleazer, Cedar, Cedar Planks, Caesar Guns...)
My cousin's name is Lynette but we call her Nina.
My aunt's name is Delores but we call her Lois.
My other aunt's name is Alice but we call her Mickey.
Same! My little sister is 15 and her real name is margaret but she is known as peggy. She hates Margaret. When she was first born I used to call her Maggie, but Peggy just stuck How it's short for margaret, I have no clue.. lol
