I effing hate RSV. RSV is approaching and I'm turning into this nervous wreck. Last year we took the safe route - total lockdown.
I do not know what to do this year. I'm afraid if I make one dumb decision, he's going to wind up so sick.
We
can't handle total lockdown - it has to be something in between - but
even now, we're being pretty careful, and he's almost been sick
constantly since we lifted lockdown (4 colds, a 3 month sinus
infection.)
Most people I've asked (people who are educated in that area - pedis, nurses, etc.) have suggestion I be fairly careful and I should take it fairly seriously still. But we are being careful now and he's sick so much. But then his pedi didn't seemed concerned. I emailed his NICU follow-up Neonatologist to see what he suggestions.
Moms of older preemies, what are you doing this year?
Re: so confused - I hate RSV
When we went in for a check-up our Dr. said it really won't hurt the girls to bad if they get it since they are old enough to fight off. I know when they were in NICU last year they gave them the shot. I don't know if they will give it to older kids something you could ask about.
We were in semi-lockdown the twins first year and did get their synagis shots. Their sesond year we weren't. I was working and they wer ein daycare. Jonathan had bronchitis and several stomach bugs, colds and ear infections and ended up with tubes. Matthew had bronchitis and pneumonia, roseolla, stomach bugs, colds, ear infections tubes. If I could have a do over I would be not in total lockdown but would be more cautious then we were.
Christopher was more in a lockdown his first year since the insurance wouldn't do the synagis shots. We did the same the second year. He did better.
Our first year DS was on semi-lockdown, with Synagis, but he was in Daycare so we tried our best other than that. Thankfully we only had one really bad cold and one long ear infection from like Nov-May. (seriously)
This year his pedi says he wouldn't qualify for Synagis, so we will probably just do daycare and family, but no stores/outings.
