Looking over a registry suggestion list, I saw they recommended having 12 washclothes, 8 towels, 3 crib sheets. Is this about right? How often do you change / wash them? I can see needing more crib sheets b/c of potential accidents, especially when baby sick, but that many washclothes? Do you use them for anything else besides bathing baby? Do you change your towels daily? I figured changing towels 3x a week would be sufficient, no? I change mine 1/wk (unless gets dirty for whatever reason). So, please help me complete my babies' needs (I know your answers are based on singleton).
1 - Towels
2 - Washclothes
3 - Crib sheets
4 - Changing table cover
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many?
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately?
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets).
Re: Poll - How many...
1 - Towels - I received about 3 at my shower and had like 5-6 more hand me downs. I changed them 2 times a week so really having so many was not neccessary at all!
2 - Washclothes - 8 is enough, again i would change these every other day so depending on how often you wash
3 - Crib sheets - I think I have 3 and I change it every week. We have never had accidents. I will worry about this more when J is potty training.
4 - Changing table cover - N/A for me
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets - I had 2, again no accidents so this was enough considering he slept on it for 3 mths
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? - 1
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately? - yup, 1 is enough
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets). - I have TONS because of my nephews. I would say 4 for each baby is good and get some of the cheaper ones for around the house if anything. make sure to buy 1 good/thick one for the cold days you have to take them out.
Well, this isn't based on real experience, but here's what I have:
1 - Towels I have three hooded towels right now. I think I read somewhere a bath three times a week is usually sufficient, although I'm thinking of picking up another two-pack just to have extras on hand.
2 - Washclothes I was given a pack of 24, so I won't be getting any more.
3 - Crib sheets Three
4 - Changing table cover I only have one, but I'm thinking a second one is probably a good bet. I got the boppy changing pad cover, which comes with a waterproof pad, so maybe just another set of the waterproof pads would be sufficient. IDK
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets Just the one. The proper-fitting sheets have to be ordered from the bassinet company and are expensive, so I thought I'd first try laying a small waterproof pad under the baby while he's in the bassinet. Again, IDK about this so much.
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? I'm not getting any because I read it's not good to have more than two layers on the mattress because of SIDS (that may not be true, but it's what I've read). Our two layers are taken up by the mattress pad and crib sheet.
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately? I bought two, but I do think one is probably enough. The mattress is already waterproof, so I figure it'll work out OK.
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets). We have seven blankets I can really see us using on a regular basis, which is probably far too many. LOL We've been given a nice quilt and two other handmade blankets, and I want to use those less often to keep them nice.
1 - Towels- i think we had about 5 hooded towels, which was more than enough. i used each one twice before washing it. and we only bathe every other day.
2 - Washclothes- i think we had about 5 of these, same as towels, it was more than enough!
3 - Crib sheets- 3 of these. i changed the sheets once a week when she was little, and of course more often it there was spitup or a diaper leak.
4 - Changing table cover- I had 2 of these and then I got a pack of 3 Boppy changing table cover pads. They are white oval shaped with plastic on one side and cloth on the other. Keeps leaks from getting on your actual changing cover.
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets- N/A we didn;t do a bassinet
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? I never used them. I didnt think changing crib sheets were that difficult!
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately?- I had 3 of these, same as sheets. That way you don't have to wait til the laundry is done to replace it if it is dirty.
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets). I had about 12 receiving blankets. They are great for laying over the swing/, bouncer, activity mat, etc so that if the baby spits up or leaks you don't have to clean the whole thing, just the blanket!
1 - Towels - i have like 10 i change them with every shower which is everyday maybe i should stop that : /
2 - Washclothes- i have like 6 and dont use them much
3 - Crib sheets- i have like 6 change every week
4 - Changing table cover- na
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets- used the same fitted sheets didnt buy differnt or blanket glad i did since she grew out of it in a less then a month.
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? dont have one 7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately? Never used
8 - Blankets - i have 4 nice big ones and the receving blankets i have like 20 or more i got alot from my sister.
I have alot of everything since am renting and there is no washer and dryer so i rather be safe then sorry.
Towels - we used a different one every day until they were a little older. Don't know why, just did. Because we suck at laundry we have about 3 for each kid.
Washclothes - we have a ton and use them for many things. We probably have 50 and many from our very first shower.
Crib sheets, Mattress Cover, Crib Pad - We have four-ish of everything except the mattress Cover (only one of those). To prevent having to wash too much when there was an accident we layered our bedding. It went crib mattress, mattress cover, crib pad (I think they're called all purpose pads now), crib sheet, crib pad. When they are tiny and can't roll around they slept on the crib pad (upper most layer). If they spit up we just swapped that out. When they got more mobile we took off the top crib pad. Then if they spit up or made a mess we stripped the sheet and bottom crib pad but at least this way we didn't have to wash the mattress cover. The crib pads come in all sizes and textures. We used the big ones that are flat and thin on the bottom and smaller one on top.
Changing table cover - three. One in the wash, one on the changing pad, and one in the drawer. They poop and pee on everything! Sometimes you go through more than one a day!
Blankets - a ton of receiving blankets in the beginning. Maybe six? The giant, fuzzy, nice blankets don't get used a lot, so maybe 3 of those? I highly recommend the brand Swaddle Me as a receiving blanket but also as a swaddle blanket. Those are big, nice and amazing!
All these baby lists give you rough estimates on the number of items...sometimes they are right on and sometimes they are not. Everyone is different. This is what we've done...
1 - Towels We have about 6 but in reality you only need maybe 3 - We wash about once a week but then again we only shower him 2-3 times per week at this point. They tend to poopy and pipi quite often so the towel may only get a 1 time use before washing.
2 - Washclothes We have many, maybe 15? It depends what you use them for; we used them early on before umbilical stump fell off to "wash" him; we now use in conjunction with burp cloths. 6-10 is feasible.
3 - Crib sheets We have 3 and it's a good number; We change them whenever he spits up; otherwise once a week.
4 - Changing table cover - N/A to us
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets - same as crib sheet
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? Don't use
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately? We have 2 just in case but in reality, 1 is enough.
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets). We have many - 15-20? It's too many and most are the receiving blankets or the blankets we brought home from hospital. I recommend to get a few of different kinds and see which one you/your sons like. Of all those blankets, I end up using the receiving blankets to clean spit up and save my more comfy and roomy blankets to be used as actual blankets.

I was asking myself these same questions the other day when I was getting the items that I was missing at BBB.
Below is what I've got so far and then I figure I have a Marshall's across the street with a big baby section where I can go get more if need be.
1 - 5
2 - 5
3 - 3
4 - 3
5 - 2 (for the PNP bassinet)
6 - 1 (but I may get one more)
7 - 1 for mattress and 1 for PNP (but I may get one more of each soon)
8 - about 10 - half flannel and half of the nicer blankets, but I also have 2 "swaddle me" blankets
1 - Towels - we have about 5 of these. We do not use a new one each day, tho.
2 - Washclothes - Only a few. I am not big on wash clothes.
3 - Crib sheets - we have 4 crib sheets.
4 - Changing table cover - we have 3 of these.
5 - Bassinet / Cradle sheets - I have one spare but that is because I use blankets under the baby. They leak up the back so often that it makes no sense to change the sheets each time...so I have a blanket for that. Which is why I have countless blankets.
6 - Are crib sheet savers really necessary? If so, how many? I don't have any of these.
7 - Mattress pad - I'm assuming 1 is enough? If soiled, wash next day and replace immediately? I have one mattress pad. Our mattress is not fabric anyway - which helps. Its plastic and wipeable which has been a life saver!
8 - Blankets - this is one department I'm lacking in right now. I prob only have 4 for each baby, and 3 are "nicer" ones (more stroller blankets). We have all kinds of recieving blankets - square for swaddling, fuzzy ones for warmth, cotton ones, and then the "nicer" knit ones my grandma gave me. You cannot have enough blankets.
