1st Trimester

What to expect at 1st Appt

I am going to have my very first u/s and appt in the next few days. What should I expect? What exactly do they do? I am nervous and excited all at the same time. I am still kind of in pregnancy denial too, I just find it hard to believe.  Any info would be a great help!

Re: What to expect at 1st Appt

  • Congratulations!

The first appointment made it much more real for me, they started with the u/s which was vaginal for me (was not as far along as my LMP would suggest), and got to see the hearts beating.  Then I spent a good 45 minutes answering questions about DH's, my family's, and my medical history.  Once we (finally) got to the exam part it felt a lot like my usual gyno appointments, they did a pap and some more bloodwork and scheduled my next appt!

Of course your experience could be different, but from what I hear my experience was about the usual!

Good luck and have a h&h 9 months!

  • With our first appt, we had an u/s got to see the litte jellybean, hear it's heart beat and take a few pictures of it to bring home.

I also had to pee in a cup and have my blood drawn for stuff. I hate needles, and was not looking forward to it.

  • I am just so nervous! I barely have any sypmtoms of being pregnant. I have had NO morning sickness at all, my breasts are tender but not bad, and have been a little crampy. But thats it!! I just hope everything will be ok, super super nervous

  • I didn't get an u/s at my first appointment... Basically, the doc got a bunch of information from me and did a regular gyno exam, complete with pap smear and STD testing.

They also did blood work, asked a million questions, and gave us a ton of information.

I was super nervous before mine, as well - I barely slept the night before. It was great to have the exam, but I think I'll be worried until I have my NT scan at the end of the month (that will be the first ultrasound for me).

Take a deep breath and try to relax, mama.
