January 2011 Moms

the "no weight gain" posts make me laugh now :)

I was on 2nd tri and there are a few posts about someone not gaining any weight yet or how they are excited that they finally gained something at 14-15 weeks.

It makes me laugh b/c I remember all of us being there....now here we are 20 weeks + and the scale is evil and the weight keeps coming :)  I went from gaining only 2-3 lbs at my 16 week appt to being up 12 lbs at 22 weeks.  It's crazy how fast it all came and the belly too...make me fear what the next 6 weeks will bring :)

Re: the "no weight gain" posts make me laugh now :)

  • Same here....SO happy I was down to my pre-pg weight when I got pregnant again. If we wouldn't have found out that #3 was a girl I SWEAR that I would have thought boy. I'm eating how I did with DS - JUNK and it's so hard to stop =/ With DD I was all healthy and now that's totally out the window, lol.

  • I don't even open those posts.  I never had to worry about gaining weight - I'm a pro.  I can't seem to get myself on board with feeling bad for people who can't gain/aren't gaining weight.

Yeah, me either.  I was down to my goal weight when I got my BFP and have gained all the way along no problem, even when I had bad m/s.  I can't shed a tear for those who aren't gaining, I just consider them lucky.

I feel the same about the , I don't have any symptoms people.

  • Yeahhh... I was SO excited at the end of 19w when I started finally gaining weight! ----> And now I'm gaining almost 2lbs a week. That doesn't sound like much, but all I can think is 'Auuuggghhh!! I have how many weeks left?'

It's not always necessarily "lucky". I didnt gain any weight with my DS until after 27 weeks. Since I was not overweight pre-pregnancy, this was a concern and had to get an ultrasound to make sure baby was growing properly. It can be a valid health concern (although it's not when someone is only 19 weeks along).

Trust me, it's better to be fat and know your baby is healthy than not gain weight when you need to be. Luckily with my 2nd pregnancy I'm not as concerned with the lack of weight gain because of what happened the first time around, but when it's the unknown and your OB is ordering u/s to check on your baby, it's not that much fun.

You're actually the only one that has told their doctor was concerned. All the others ones I've read were "my doctor isn't worried, but should I be?"

I'll actually second what KC was saying. I lost ten pounds and didn't regain any weight until just recently. The nausea was so bad that my doctors were worried about dehydration and the baby not getting enough nutrients. I was actually told to eat anything I possibly could, even if it were a gallon of ice cream a day, to help get more calories in. I'm still down four pounds from where I started, and I'm curious to see where things stand at my scan next Monday.

I definitely do find it annoying when someone is blatantly just looking for a "Go you! You look sooooo skinny!" response, but there's a few of us who actually were quite concerned about the health of our babies :)

Those of you who are actually concerned, though, ask your doctors rather than a message board... The women who post about weight on here generally (meaning not ALL, but most) are just looking for attention.

In some cases, yeah people are looking for attention for sure. But sometimes they're looking for others who have had similar experiences and everything turned out ok. I'm not talking about any of the weight posts that were posted today, just making a general statement. You're not always "lucky" when you don't gain weight.

  • I never mind weight posts but sometimes I want to say, "brace yourself, girls!" I started slow and then definitely made up for lost time. They'll get there, just like we did!
