register at out of town stores/online shopping?

So, I live in a smaller community where the only local place to register and shop is Target. I'm missing out on BRU, Baby Depot, all those great specialty stores.

Do you think it's reasonable to register at stores outside of my community thinking my friends and family will shop online? I could be clear in the shower invites where those stores are located. Or should I stick to Target? Please note our Target doesn't have much options, either! :(

TIA!

Re: register at out of town stores/online shopping?

  • I registered on Amazon.com, I think it's acceptable to register online, as long as you make sure your Target registry stays plenty stocked so people who want to do in person shopping have that option, I don't see the problem.

  • I also live in a small town. But we only have walmart. Most of my family live where they have BRU and other stores like that. So I'd say go ahead and register online for now at those stores and register at target

  • We only have Wal-Mart and K-Mart in my community. The closest Target & BRU are both 50 miles away. I registered at BRU to have a better choice in gear/bigger baby stuff, and at Wal-Mart for all the smaller stuff.

My reasoning is this: Although both our families, who will make up the majority of my shower guests, live near us, the ones who will get the bigger/more expensive gifts (mostly my family, we're a small, close family) won't think twice about driving to BRU. In fact, they usually are in that city at least once a month for shopping. And DH's huge extended family can use the Wal-Mart registry since they always shop there anyway.
