"she's pregnant not broken!"

At work today, we took our clients for a walk (I currently work in a group home for deaf-blind individuals)  My good friend who i work with rushed out of the van to get the wheel chairs out for me (They are heavy and she knows how worried i've been about doing something to hurt myself or the baby!)  She was sweet to get them out, and said I will lift them for you their too heavy, well our other co-worker says "She's pregnant not broken!"  I just shrugged it off, but it really bothered me..  And my friend was pissed about it too.  But we didn't let it show.  It was totally un-called for.  I know this, and everyone at work knows i've been pulling my weight, and running, and doing things i normally do, i'm not babying myself, but my friend knew that I shouldn't be lifting, and did me a favor...  Wow... wish everyone at work could be so considerate!

Sorry just had to vent!

  • there is nothing wrong with not wanting to lift something heavy while pregnant. I don't know what the weight limit is but the one that did help was right and other one may have been a little out of line. Its not like you flat out refused to do your job. Sorry guess I am just venting too. yes we are not broken but there are things we need to be more careful about.

  • i still haven't told people at work, except for my boss and one other coworker (i love her to death, she's like a work-mom to me, and her husband is my ob!!) so everyone here thinks i'm being a lazy PITA!  i plan events so lifiting things like boxes of books, food, supplies, etc. isn't really in teh cards for me at the moment!  we're waiting until my spotting stops and we have one more app thrusday to tell- then maybe i'll catch a break!  ugh i'd be SO ANNOYED in your position!

  • I would have just said "she was being nice, I don't think there are any laws against that"

    She needs to MHOB.

  • I'm in the other boat on this one. People keep offering to do things for me or saying ":why didn't you ask for help?", and I'm like, I'm pregnant, not disabled. However, I'm fit and have no concerns about lifting or exerting myself. And it is none of her business, and I'm sure it makes you feel bad. If you have concerns, there is nothing wrong with that!

  • Sounds like that co-worker is bitter about something and taking it out on you.  I'll bet if you did lift them, he/she would have said something about that too.  FWIW, I don't lift anything if I think it's heavy - I would DEFINITELY not be lifting wheelchairs.

  • It's great you have someone looking out for you and willing to help at work. The "negative nelly" is either.

    1. A man

    2. Single and childless

    3. Had a child and no one to care and assist them!

You do what you're comfortable with and try not to let the bitter, negative people in this world get you down!
