I went to a bridal shower this weekend, and one girl brought her brand new baby girl alone (I can't remember exactly how old). When someone asked her the name, she said it was Carsyn and then spelled it out. I just knew the Y was coming, and I had to turn my head, so she wouldn't see me smirk. Clearly, she did not consult this board first.
Re: Name this weekend committed a Baby Name board sin
You said girl? Carson is a boys name to me, and the spelling of Carsyn isn't great. I'm not against y's, but they have to look good, and this one doesn't. That being said, I also could care less if a kid is going to have to spell out their name for the rest of their life, because regarless of what you name your child, they will still have to spell it out. My name is Heather (yes I am a product of the 80's) and you would be amazed at how many times I have to spell out my name for people. And this is not a new thing, I have always, since I can remember, had to spell out my name for people. So while the y doesn't really fit, even if it had been spelled Carson, she still would have had to spell it out.

That's how I would expect to spell the name Carsyn if it were for a girl.
I think in most situations where someone would be asked to spell their name, like in school, the teachers now are expecting a different spelling. I teach at a preschool, and there are so many different ways parents choose to spell a name.
For instance, my name is MacKenzie, and there are 5 little girls in the school with that name, all spelled differently than mine. (And I guarantee that they will not have as many problems as they get older like I did in the 80's and 90's with a name like that)
Now, that being said, I do think that parents sometimes take it to the extreme with the weird/unique spellings.
LOL. Yes, we all know that using a "Y" makes a name so much more feminine
I'm not a fan of the name to begin with and this spelling doesn't help.
I agree. I have to spell my name out all.the.time. People either can't spell it (it's spelled exactly the way it's pronounced) or can't pronounce it (seriously, there's no trick here, folks).
my uber uneek cre8ive name? Caroline.
