I have a 9 month old. We went to the pedi last week, and he told me he thought that my son was developmentally delayed because he didn't pull up on things, and because he didn't say mama or dada yet. I am having a really hard time with this, because I don't feel like he is behind. He is a peanut, 16 lbs at 9 months, so I am wondering if anyone else has a 9 month old who was a little slower with these things?
Also, he said it was strange that he didn't know how to play peek a boo. Like he said we should be able to say peek a boo, and them cover his eyes? A little advanced don't you think? he also doesn't wave yet. Maybe he is delayed?
Re: Another milestone Question...
DS has been saying mama and dada for a long time, but he has no idea that means us. He just babbles. I think he was pulling up at 9 months, but he didn't wave until he was 10 months old.
DS can play peek-a-boo with a towel or burp rag. He's been doing that a couple months. Does your baby clap? Will he bear any weight on his legs?
Basically I think your LO sounds pretty normal, but obviously I am not a pediatrician. Did the pedi suggest early intervention? Maybe he was just saying it's something to keep an eye on, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with a little help/therapy to keep things going! Prob if he's not doing those things by a year I'd be a little worried.
yeah, he can pull a towel off his head if we say " where's Dylan??" Does that count? lol. No he doesn't clap either. He will stand next to furniture if we put him there, just can't get up by himself. He did suggest early intervention, which I have no problem doing what so ever.
I had a speech problem as a child, so I I have no problem with that either. He just doesn't babble much at all. He yells!:) he does say mamamamam, but never dadada which I know is a little backward.
I was just seeing what other peoples babes were doing at 9 months!:) Thanks for the response!
Sounds normal to me. DS just started waving and didn't pull up until he was close to 10 months.
Yeah, Dylan doesn't crawl right yet, he still army crawls, but hey, I figure he knows he can get from point a to point B pretty quickly, so why change what works!?
At 9 months my DS was crawling and just started pulling up. But I also have an early walker (at 10 months). He does play peek a boo by covering his eyes with his hands, he can also play patty cake on demand. He started doing those around 10 months. But we worked with him a lot on how to do these things.
BTW... I DO think that the towel over the head and the "where's dylan" game that you posted about below DOES count as peek a boo. That is how it started with us, the hands over the eyes thing is just another method of doing it. This is just my opinion though.
I think every child develops at different ages, and I HATE how pediatrician's try to compare one child to "the average". Like the whole percentile comparisons drive me nuts. I would just be patient and let him develop. If he is still not doing things at closer to a year then I would consider early intervention... but that is just .02 cents.
