I ended up taking DD to the ER yesterday because she has been super congested and grouchy as anything, not sleeping at all. Plus, we don't have a co-pay at the ER and her pedi's office was closed for the holiday. They said she looked okay, but definitely had an upper respiratory infection. The doc gave her a prescription for an antihistamine, and something to help her throat feel better. This morning she woke up, and now her eye is gushing green mucus, as well as her nose (yesterday it was still mostly clear). Does this mean it is clearing up, or getting worse? I always heard green = bad. Should I call the pedi, or wait it out another day? TIA
Re: back to the doctor? or wait it out?
I would just call the nurse line and see what they say. To me it sounds like it's progressing, but all the mucus staying in one place can lead to an infection (green/yellow). Does she have a fever? If she has a fever, then DEF take her in!
But calling the nurse line can't hurt. I feel your pain on the copay... we haven't met our deductible yet so every time DS is sick I have to decide if he's $200 worth of sick or not...
Wow! $200! That's insane, I feel for you lady!
OP, I'd say take her into the pedi. I'm very surprised that the ER doc didn't give you an antibiotic, if he thought it was an upper respiratory infection. Typically, any type of infection equals antibiotics.
I could be wrong, but I think that upper respiratory infection can be synonymous with cold. Bacterial infections equal antibiotics, not viral ones.
I'd probably call the nurses line, but the crap coming out of LOs eye would most likely prompt a trip to the doctor for me. Green/yellow mucus coming out of the nose isn't necessarily an infection, but goup in the eye is usually an ear infection or pinkeye for us.
