what allergy meds are okay to take when PG?

Not PG yet but my fall allergies are starting to kick in and they are predicting that it is going to be a bad season this year.     I normally take Claritin D(I need the D...I get very congested) but I can't remember if that was okay to take.    My allergies weren't too bad when I was PG last time and I was able to get by without taking anything.

If the fall allergy season is going to be anything like the spring was, I'll wind up taking something almost daily just to function.      If Claritin D isn't okay, I need to start trying to find something else that will work for me and not make me drowsy so I'll be ready when I do get a BFP.

  • Worry about it once you get a BFP. I personally am part of the school of suck it up and gave up my allergy medicine.

  • Cross that bridge when you get there. There was no "sucking it up" with me. I need to breathe to provide oxygen for my baby so I am taking Zyrtec.

You need asthma needs to help with breathing and give the baby oxygen. Allergy meds just make you more comfortable.

It lists the class of drugs for all the major allergy meds. I was taking Allegra, Singulair and Nasonex. I now take Singulair and Claritin. I'm going to have to find a sub for Nasonex though...that really helps me when the allergy count is high.

No actually... my asthma is brought on by allergies. When my allergies are fine, my asthma is fine. When my allergies act up, my asthma acts up. Therefore I take the allergy meds and am fine.

My allergies were so bad this spring that if I didn't take something I literally could not function.   I tend to be the "just suck it up"  type when it comes to taking allergy meds, PG or not.     But when I can't get a single thing done at school because my allergies are so bad, I need to take something.   The couple days I did not take something, I was so useless that I should have just called out sick.   It's not fair to my students for me to show up unable to function.   And for what it's worth,  I did "suck it up" when I was PG the first time.   My allergies were bearable that year.

And I'm putting the cart before the horse because I could be PG(AF is due today so I'm testing tomorrow) so I would like to be prepared, just in case.   And, if this isn't my month, I would like to try other stuff now...lots of meds(such as benadryl) make me very drowsy.

Thank you got letting me know the D isn't good to take.  I'll stick to saline sprays to try to keep the nose clear.   I'll pick up some zyrtec to try in case I do wind up having a horrible allergy season.

Why do you feel the need to defend yourself to a stranger on the interwebs?

Why do you feel the need to try and prove a stranger wrong on the interwebs? You were wrong and I corrected you. I coudn't care less what someone online thinks about me. Just giving info for those who have questions about allergy meds.
