Get Sit N Stand stroller or waste of money?

My son will be 3 and 1/2 when the baby is born, and as of now, he doesn't ride in the stroller much - just when we go somewhere where he has to walk a ton (Busch Gardens, State Fair, things like that).  BRU is doing their trade in event, and I was thinking of trading in my travel system stroller that I got when he was born for the Sit N Stand.  I also have a Fisher Price stroller that is the one I used the most with DS (smaller and lighter than the travel system stroller).

For those of you who have kids Brendan's age, do they use the Sit N Stand part enough to be worthwhile or do they walk most of the time?  I hate to have him in a positiob where he HAS to walk, bu I also don't want to spend that much money on something I won't really need.  Any advice would be great!

  • DD was 3.8 when DS was born. I kept my BOB single. It's worked so far. If DD needs to be in the stroller, we'll put DS in the Beco carrier.

  • I waited until the baby was born - and even then, I didn't decide for awhile.

DS was almost 2 1/2 and didn't want to be in the stroller very much. At first, I used a snap n'go with her and made him walk (and he was good about holding on to it and staying with me).  Or I put her in an Ergo and strollered him.  Frankly, it was winter and we didn't go too many places where I wish I had them both strollered.

She outgrew the infant seat in June or so and I had to make a decision and did get a sit n' stand.  He loves it - still uses it, actually (although it's been awhile, actually - maybe we're "done").  He used it way more than he would have sat in a stroller - he likes the choice of sitting or standing or getting down (and it's great in winter at the mall - he can walk and you can put all the coats in the back.

If it weren't for the fact that he's a walker to K now and I stroller DD to get him there, I think we'd be almost stroller-free, it's a weird feeling.

I know you'll miss the trade-in, but you might not want to rush into anything.

  • I got a used sit & stand off Craigslist.  I don't know that I would have paid full price for one, but I am SO glad I had it.  My oldest was 2.5 when the baby was born, and it was a lifesaver.  As for 3.5, they have a little more stamina, but it would be nice to have something where he can sit down.
  • We have a practically new one sitting in our garage... DS#1 was 3 when DS#2 was born, and while we did use it for the first 4-5 months (when DS#1 was in an infant carrier), it wasn't the best purchase for us.

We have a double BOB for things like the zoo, parks, etc (I found the sit and stand hard to steer in "off road/non-mall-like" situations) and what we use most is our Peg Perego Pliko P3 stroller that has a standing board on the back of it - DS#2 sits in the stroller, DS#1 walks most of the time, but there's always a place for him to stand/ride/rest if he wants/needs to.  HIGHLY recommend the Peg P3 stroller :)

  • DS is 3 1/2 and we have a 2mo.  We got a sit n stand & I love it.  DS is pretty good about walking, but for trips to the zoo, mall, etc it is a lifesaver.  We first used it when we went to an allday outdoor air show convention, and we literally would not have gone without it.

  • At 3y8m my DS still uses ours.  But does your son still use a stroller today?  If yes then buy it but if no then do not.

  • DS1 was 21 mo when DS2 was born.  We got a reg. double stroller, and I used the HECK out of it for about 1.5 years.  Since this past spring (DS1 was 3 years 4-5 months) we haven't been using it.  I use our single for DS2 and DS1 does a really good job at walking with me/staying with me.  I use our wagon when we take our walks to the park....which is a pretty long walk, and DS1 has the option of hopping in if he gets tired, but he doesn't he walks the whole way.

So NO, I would not get a sit and stand if I was in your shoes......if I were somewhere like the amusement park, I would just make sure I wasn't alone with both of them (the only adult) and just make sure he has plenty of time to sit and rest if needed......

  • i JUST bought a joovy ultralight (from many recommendations on this board).  My #1 is 3 and my #2 is just 2 months old.  #1 would always use the stroller with no problems, however, having the option for him to jump off, makes it a bit more difficult for us.  He doesn't want to stay on.  I'm going to keep at it because we haven't been to the zoo, etc yet, just walk around the neighborhood. He will jump off if he gets tired.  I will say that this stroller is so nice!  It steers so well and is such a smooth ride and very compact!  It's a little bulky if you try to use the carseat with it, but the front seat reclines enough for me to put the little one in the harness and pad the sides of the seat.  (he hates the carseat)

My other huge need is that my husband travels and is gone 4 days a week.  So, i needed something i could handle and would feel comfortable going out to the store, etc and be able to handle them both.  so far, it's been great.  the only con is that the basket underneath is practically useless (this may be the same for any sit and stand.  by the time you get everything in and strapped down to go, there's no accessing it later w/o removing everything.  ugh.

Good luck, I just wouldn't rush into anything.  I bought my joovy from BRU when they did the spend $$ get $$ off and got free shipping.  I saved 60 on the stroller.

  • if he never goes in a stroller except for theme parks, I would just rent another stroller when you go.  I wouldn't buy a sit n stand to lug around if you'll never use it.  I'd just use the single for the baby.  Although, i do have to say that a double is nice when you're out and about alone wtih both in case you need to buckle one in to tend to the other.  But, if that's the case, I would just buy one off of Craigslist.  We got ours there for $30 just so we could have another option and it's been great.
