My bff and I are going on a girls trip to NYC in October! Do you have any recs on where to stay (what neighborhood would be best, hotels, etc). We'd like to stay under $400/ night.
I don't know about NYC specifically, but I would recommend a Marriott Residence Inn. We stayed in one while we waited for our house in NJ, and we're in one now for a business trip and it's really nice. They have free breakfast (good stuff too not just cereal) and during the week they have free dinner and, if you want, beer and wine. The rooms also have a relatively equipped kitchen if you don't want to eat out every night/miss the dinner stuff. I think the rates vary a little; maybe $100 to $115 a night (at least in NJ and upstate NY).

Lurking, but I was on assignment in NYC for 3 years and 2 of those years I lived in the Embassy Suites downtown. It's right on the water close to the Statue of Liberty and the World Financial Center. I worked on the World Trade Center rebuild so it was convienent for me but it's pretty easy to get to midtown quickly and staying in the Financial district is quiet at night. If you are looking for action, the W in midtown is really nice.
Now I live right across the river in Jersey...I don't know what the rates are in NYC, but there are some hotels in Jersey City, NJ that are beautiful and fairly new (the Hyatt, the Westin, Doubletree, and Courtyard) that are around that rate and even less. Also, the trains are within walking distance into the city...you would be in the city in 10 minutes. You may also want to look into Hoboken, NJ...they have a W hotel. Just a thought....
