I have the all in twos. I really want to love CDing, but so far have lots of leaks. On the diapers it says just wash warm, no rinsing necessary. I read on-line leaks may be caused by detergent build-up and to wash a bunch without soap to strip them. This seemed to help. Should I wash twice every time? Any suggestions are welcome. I've been using disposables again.
Re: Grow via users, leaks?
I wash mine on warm and then do an extra rinse cycle. I use planet detergent and use just a small amount. I have not had any problems with leaking. Where are the leaks happening? Out the legs? Do you have the diapers on tight enough? My DS is like 13lbs and is on the smallest rise and the tabs touch in the middle of the diaper when on.
I have Grobaby diapers - the precursor to Grovia. The main difference is that the GV inserts are backed with PUL, and I think they have gussets. Anyway ...
Are the inserts soaked when the leaks start? If so, you just need to change a bit more often. Also, how long have you been using them? I found I needed to wash my inserts a good 10 times before they started absorbing well. I also find that the inserts don't pull the moisture all the way through - so the front of the insert will be sopping wet and the back will be bone dry. This happens with other diapers too, so it must be something about the way DD pps. In any case, the Grobabies are my least absorbent diaper (and my least favorite).
If Grobaby diapers are your only experience with CDing - don't give up! There are so many other (and IMO, better!) options out there. We personally like pockets the best right now. When DD was teeny, we used prefolds. I've also used fitteds and like them pretty well, too. There's a whole world to explore.

This. Please don't give up b/c there are a bunch of different CDs out there you can try.
We LOVE our GroBabies -- they are some of our favorites. They fit my LO very well, they are super absorbent, the shells are soft, the aplix rocks, and I love the prints and colors. We have never had any leak problems. We wash ours in our HE washer every other day with the other dirty diapers. We do a double first rinse on cold (to make sure all the yuckies are rinsed out), do a hot wash with one Tbsp of Country Save, with a cold rinse, and then an extra rinse (to make sure all the detergent is rinsed out). I know the tag says to wash on warm, but I wash all my other diapers on hot, so I just throw them in there.
GBs are a natural fiber, so they get more absorbent with uses/washes. I actually boiled mine to prep (be careful to not boil too hot b/c some ppl have melted snaps before, but I have never had that issue -- I let the water get to a rolling boil, then set on low and toss a few GB soakers in for 20 minutes then wash with my dirty diapers as usual). My GBs were super absorbent from the get-go.
Sometimes the soaker can get bunched up inside the shell. Is that happening to you? If yes, you may need to tighten the shell on your baby. Make sure the soaker is tucked all the way inside the shell at the waist and legs to prevent wicking. Or, like PP said, if the soaker is fully wet, then you may need to change more often. CDs do not have all the yucky stay-dry chemicals that sposies have, so they need to changed every 2 hours or so.
If you think there is a detergent build-up, you can do an extra rinse when you wash. Also, don't use too much detergent --you need to use only about half of what is recommended on the box.
HTH! Please keep up updated! We want to encourage you to CD and will help out in any way we can!
Hmm, no leaks here (mine are GroBaby's, though, so I don't know if that makes a difference). I use biokleen, and do a hot soak, hot wash, and two cold rinses.
Could it be a fit issue? I already gave up snapping the rise down on mine, even though they're supposed to be OS. She's only three months old, so I wonder how long before she's too big for them!
Did you fully prep them (5 wash and dry cycles?)
I love these diapers and they work well for me. i had major leak problems with sized thirsties AIOs and would have given up on CDing if that was all I knew. Sometimes it just takes trying something else.
